COMMENCED TODAY: THE INVENTORY OF POPULATION WITHIN THE 7-8KM EXTENDED DANGER ZONE OF MAYON VOLCANO, HELD IN SANTO DOMINGO ALBAY.

This activity is part of the continiuous initiative of the Albay Public Safety and Emergency Management Office (APSEMO) thru its Research Division, which aims to update and validate baseline population data in high-risk areas to strengthen disaster preparedness, early warning, and evacuation planning.

As part of this initiative, APSEMO is now conducting orientation for the following barangays in Sto. Domingo with populations inside the 7–8 km EDZ:
1. Lidong
2. Fidel Surtida
3. Sta. Misericordia
4. San Isidro
5. San Fernando

together with LGU Bacacay, Albay

1. Brgy. Bonga .

The Brgys officials are accompanied by their respective DRRM Officers, Mr. Mart Ian Siapno, DRRMO Sto. Domingo and Mr. Bryan Berdin, MDRRMO Bacacay, who also shared message of support and commitment to the program.

The discussion is led by Mr. Eugene Escobar from Research Division of APSEMO, facilitated by the Research Mapping Section and Albay Emergency Medical Services (EMS).

The orientation covered Mayon Volcano hazards to equip LGUs with the knowledge on the critical significance of population mapping, and to promote community safety by helping residents understand the dangerous impacts of volcanic activity.

As a key output, participants shall undergo hands-on GPS training, as they will lead the house-to-house data collection with technical assistance from APSEMO.

Similar orientations and population data collection are likewise scheduled for other LGUs with population inside the 7–8 km EDZ of Mayon Volcano, and will run until July 2026.

The main output of this activity will be an updated and validated masterlist of households with geo-tagged coordinates which will be used to improve evacuation planning, strengthen early warning systems, and ensure more targeted and efficient emergency response during periods of Mayon’s volcanic activity.
