⚖️🇵🇭 This June, the Philippines marks 𝐉𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡, celebrating the 𝟏𝟐𝟓𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲 of the Supreme Court. The National Library of the Philippines joins the nation in this meaningful celebration. 📚✨

Declared under Presidential Proclamation No. 1265, s. 2026, the observance calls on government agencies, local government units, the private sector, and civil society to support and partake in the commemoration. 🤝🇵🇭

🏛️ Established on June 11, 1901 through Act No. 136 of the Philippine Commission, the Supreme Court has stood as a pillar of justice and the rule of law, first led by Chief Justice Cayetano Arellano. ⚖️

✨ In line with this milestone year, the Court unveils a series of activities under the theme: “𝐒𝐂: 𝟏𝟐𝟓 𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.”

This momentous occasion honors the historic struggle and aspirations that shaped the Filipino nation, culminating in the declaration of independence on 12 June 1898 in Kawit, Cavite 🇵🇭

Today, we honor the first unfurling of the 🇵🇭 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝗹𝗮𝗴 following the historic Battle of Alapan on May 28, 1898 — a defining moment that paved the way for the proclamation of 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 on June 12, 1898.

📜 Through 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗡𝗼. 𝟯𝟳𝟰 (1965), May 28 was declared 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝗹𝗮𝗴 𝗗𝗮𝘆, while 𝗘𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗢𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼. 𝟭𝟳𝟵 (1994) encourages all Filipinos to proudly display the Philippine flag from May 28 to June 12 as a symbol of our unity, freedom, and patriotism.

Starting today, we celebrate the National Flag Days by displaying our National Flag in our homes, schools, and offices in celebration of our nation’s independence.

Ceremonies will be held throughout the country, especially in the following sites:
📌 Dambana ng Pambansang Watawat, Alapan, Imus City, Cavite (with City Government of Imus)
📌 Rizal Park Luneta, Ermita, Manila (with National Parks Development Committee and Salute To A Clean Flag Movement)
📌 NHCP Museo nina Marcela Mariño at Felipe Agoncillo, Taal, Batangas (with Municipality of TAAL)
📌 Samonte Park, Cavite City, Cavite (in the afternoon, with City Government of Cavite)

May 28 was selected as the start of the National Flag Days as it is the anniversary of the Battle of Alapan. Filipino revolutionary forces under the overall command of General Emilio Aguinaldo, who returned from exile on 18 May 1898, defeated a large Spanish force at the field of Alapan, Imus, Cavite. In celebration of the victory, Aguinaldo unfurled and showed to the Filipino people for the first time the new National Flag made by Marcela Mariño de Agoncillo in Hong Kong at the Teatro Caviteño in Cavite City.

The new flag, which featured the red and blue fields with a white triangle superimposed by a sun with eight rays and three stars, would become the Flag of the Philippine nation and is the basis for our present-day standard.
