The College of Engineering Libraries successfully co-organized the ACS Library Event Philippines 2026 with ACS Publications on 21 October 2026, at The Learning Commons, College of Engineering Library, University of the Philippines Diliman.

With the theme “Navigating Change Together: Librarians in Conversation,” the event brought together librarians and research professionals to discuss the evolving role of libraries in supporting research and responding to the changing needs of the academic community.

Among the panelists was Mr. Martian A. Jinio, College Librarian from the Information Technology Division (ITD) of the UP Diliman Main Library, who joined fellow panelists and speakers Dr. Mohd Faizal Hamzah of Universiti Malaya, Malaysia; Dr. Joseph M. Yap of the School of Library and Information Studies, UP Diliman; and Ms. Janice Peñaflor of De La Salle University Libraries in sharing their perspectives on the challenges and opportunities facing librarians engaged in research.
The discussion emphasized the importance of institutional support for librarians’ research, the assessment of library services amid changing priorities, and the role of AI in research and librarianship. The event also provided a platform for exchanging insights on emerging challenges and strengthening the role of academic libraries in supporting research and scholarly inquiry.

Our featured publication explores '𝗪𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝗕𝗶𝗸𝗲–𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝘂𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆? 𝗔 𝗖𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗨𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘅𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻,' a compelling study co-authored by Regine Tejada from the Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research, and Andrés Fielbaum.

Published in Transportation Research Part A: Policy and Practice, this study evaluates three bike–train integration strategies—shared bikes, private bike parking near stations, and boarding bikes on trains—to determine which minimizes total cost under varying urban conditions. Using continuous approximation models and case studies from Pasig City (Philippines) and Parramatta (Australia), the research offers practical insights to guide cities toward cost-effective transport planning.

Wrapping up Express to Destress 3 with 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗟𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆: 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗕𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 ✨

Stories were shared, perspectives were broadened, and meaningful conversations unfolded! Through the Human Library session, participants met our Human Books and learned about the experiences behind their stories. 📚

Featuring “The Story Beneath the Hijab,” “The Life Behind the Bookshelves,” and “The Meaning Within the Ink,” the session encouraged participants to challenge assumptions, embrace differences, and see beyond first impressions.

Because every person had a story worth hearing. 💛

Talk about maximizing a visit! A research forum and a benchmarking tour made for a day full of insights and inspiration!

EnggLib welcomed Ms. Lina Copioso (Head Librarian, CEAT-UPLB) and Ms. Erwina Meneses (Chief Librarian, FEU-NRMF), along with their respective teams, for a guided tour of the Learning Commons and EnggLib2.

Beyond showcasing our technology-enriched services and spaces, EnggLib shared the concepts behind building the facility.

To top off the visit, the group was welcomed by Ms. Sharon Maria S. Esposo-Betan and Associate Dean for Instructions, Dr. Leslie Joy L. Diaz, who shared firsthand how the Learning Commons supports faculty members.
