⚡ AVEC Power Restoration Update – Rural Service Areas

Thank you for the Information you have provided!

AVEC crews are actively responding to power issues across several of our rural communities. We understand how important reliable electricity is to our members, especially as winter approaches, and we appreciate your patience as our teams work to address these issues.
Current Community Updates:
🔹 Wales: Crews are expected to respond after completing priority repairs in Shishmaref, potentially as early as Thursday, depending on progress and travel conditions.
🔹 Savoonga: A crew is scheduled to depart Wednesday to address power issues.
🔹 Nunapitchuk: Pole adjustments are planned for winter, when frozen ground conditions will allow for more effective and lasting repairs.
🔹 St. Mary's: A crew is scheduled to arrive today to repair the primary neutral on the tie line. The wind turbine returning to service is also expected to help improve power reliability.
🔹 Kivalina: A crew is expected to arrive today to address power issues.
Our Restoration Priorities
AVEC is prioritizing repairs based on the severity of the situation, with community safety and restoring power as our highest priorities. Crews are addressing complete outages first, followed by partial-power issues and new service requests.
Working in remote Alaska presents unique challenges, including weather, flight availability, and transportation logistics. Our crews are working hard to reach affected communities as quickly and safely as possible.
We know our members depend on electricity every day, and we are committed to restoring safe, reliable power.
Thank you for your continued patience and understanding as our crews work across Rural Alaska. We will provide additional updates as information becomes available.

Passing Down Knowledge, Inspiring the Next Generation!

For more than 20 years, AVEC Board Director Anna Sattler of Bethel has shared her voice, experience, and leadership as a Master of Ceremonies at the Alaska Federation of Natives (AFN) Convention, Elders & Youth Conference, and Quyana Nights.

This year, Anna is passing on her knowledge by mentoring Jalen Konukpeok of New Stuyahok, an AVEC member who is training to become a webcast host for the Elders & Youth Conference.
In Rural Alaska, passing down knowledge, traditions, and leadership from one generation to the next is an important part of preserving our cultures and strengthening our communities. Through mentorship, experienced leaders like Anna help create opportunities for young people like Jalen to find their voices and carry these traditions forward.

AVEC is proud to recognize Anna and Jalen for demonstrating the power of mentorship and the importance of investing in the next generation of Alaska Native leaders.

Honoring Our Elders. Empowering Our Youth. Strengthening Rural Alaska. ❤️

Powering Rural Alaska takes grit, hard work, and dedication. 💨⚡

Behind the power that lights our homes and keeps our communities running are the hardworking technicians who brave the elements to maintain the systems we depend on.

In Emmonak, AVEC's wind generation is one part of our ongoing efforts to harness renewable energy and strengthen power reliability in rural Alaska. From diesel generation to wind energy, every part of our power system takes skilled hands, determination, and a commitment to the communities we serve.

This is what it means to keep Rural Alaska powered — hard work, innovation, and people who show up for their communities.

AVEC CEO Tom Atkinson recently visited our village of Yakutat to meet with local employees, see the power plant firsthand, and connect with the community we are proud to serve.

Visiting our villages matters. These visits give AVEC leadership an opportunity to better understand the unique challenges each community faces and to hear directly from the people who keep our power systems running every day.

Most importantly, AVEC is listening. We appreciate the opportunity to visit with Yakutat members and employees and to better understand the community we serve.

Thank you to the community of Yakutat for welcoming our new CEO.

Here are a few photos from Tom Atkinson’s visit to Yakutat. 📸

AVEC is proud to serve Yakutat and all of RURAL ALASKA. ⚡
