The Covering House Restoring the lives of sexually trafficked youth in the U.S. The Covering House is a therapeutic recovery program for youth who have been sexually trafficked.

Our COVER Care™ program is being licensed and copyrighted as an evidence-based program for national distribution. The program integrates specialized therapies (horticulture, equine, culinary, and arts/expressions) with experiential learning, individual and group therapy, sensory diet, and a full in-house, trauma-informed education program designed to meet the physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional needs of survivors. Since 2009, The Covering House has served 440+ children and teens and educated 11,000+ at-risk youth on trafficking red flags and self-protective behaviors.

A few weeks ago, we hosted a Holiday Decoration Donation Drive and you all showed up! As seen in the photo, you all almost filled a U-Haul van with decorations for holidays ranging from St. Patrick's Day to Christmas. We are so grateful!

Many of our girls come with negative, or no, memories of the holidays from their childhood. You are reimbursing those childhood memories by helping us decorate their home. Thank you for making their holidays special ❤️

2027 is quickly approaching. Wow! How time flies.

That also means that our 2027 Dine for Dignity Gala is coming up sooner rather than later. We hope you will SAVE THE DATE - Saturday, April 17, 2027 - so that you can attend. It will be a night full of delicious food, delightful company, and a glimpse into how you are providing youth with the resources they need to heal from s*x trafficking and exploitation. Plus, it is a ton of fun!

We look forward to seeing you there!

Our next DBT skill is TIPP, which is used when we are very heightened and our brains are offline and stuck in an emotional mindset.

This skill also comes with a bit of a science lesson! When we become heightened our sympathetic nervous system triggers our fight or flight and prepares for action by increasing heart rate, releasing the stress hormone cortisol, and increasing blood pressure. Inversely, our parasympathetic nervous system is what helps us relax and regulate emotions by reducing heart rate and blood pressure, and stabilizing hormone production. Our TIPP skills are those that activate the parasympathetic nervous system to decrease the intensity of emotions and get our brains back online. Information about the skills is provided below.

Temperature: Place your face in a bowl of cold water for at least 30 seconds. It is important for this skill that we bend at the waist to a 90-degree angle to initiate our dive reflex. In a pinch, we could even bend at the waist with icepacks or ice held to the face.

Intense Exercise: Expend your body's stored energy by doing jumping jacks, push-ups, running in place, jumping, etc. The point is that you do it intensely.

Paced Breathing: Slow your pace of breathing way down to aid in reducing your heart rate and blood pressure (Box breathing, Belly breathing, etc.).

Progressive Muscle Relaxation: Tense and relax each muscle group one at a time. Notice the tension and the release and do this skill mindfully! (Progressive Muscle Relaxation)

One of the features that our girls love most about our new home, aside from having their own bedrooms, is our sensory room. It is a safe space for them to go and relax when their emotions are running high. The room is dimly lit with colored lights of their choosing and filled with comfy furniture and fidget toys. It truly helps them through some tough emotions.

Thank you to our generous supporters who made the construction of this room possible! You are changing lives.

We celebrated our second program graduation this year! The theme was "dark formal", so the graduate, girls, and staff put on their nicest dark clothes to celebrate. The celebration was so big we couldn't host it in our dining room; we had to decorate one of our wings!

This young woman is phenomenal! She is on track to graduate high school and head off to college. In the meantime, she has secured her first job and is excelling at that. She is truly proof that your circumstances shape you, but they don't have to define you. We are so proud of her!

Please help us congratulate her in the comments.

To everyone who supported this year's F3 St. Louis activity challenge: THANK YOU! Every mile logged and donation made, is truly changing the lives of youth survivors of s*x trafficking and exploitation.

In total, you all logged 15,959 miles together. More than $126K was raised to support The Covering House's mission... and growing! Donations continue to come in. It's never too late to support TCH!

Our work would not be possible without this outpouring of support. We hope you all had fun logging these miles for a good cause. THANK YOU!

Many of our girls come with very few personal belongings. Even more have never gotten a real shopping experience. We try to reimburse that childhood memory and make them as comfortable as possible by having a boutique where our girls can "shop" when they come to The Covering House.

We need your help to restock our shelves! Specifically, we are in dire need of age appropriate plus-size girls and women's clothing, starting from size XL and going up. Our girls would so deeply appreciate being able to have the full shopping experience.

If you are interested in donating gently used or new, age appropriate, plus size, women's and girl's clothing, please email [email protected].

Thank you!

At The Covering House, our clients' well-being is of the utmost importance. A large part of their care is carried out by our staff, so we do our best to take care of them too! In fact, we have an entire wellness program that encourages our staff to take care of themselves and gives examples of how to do that.

Wellness isn't just for our clients or staff though; it is for everyone! So, we encourage you to practice self-care today and every day! Focusing on these 5 self-care practices for every area of your life is a great start towards wellness.

Physical self-care: Exercise, healthy diet, hydration, access to health care, and getting enough sleep

Mental self-care: Spending time in nature, enjoying hobbies, learning new things, meditation, mindfulness, and therapy

Emotional self-care: Setting boundaries, expressing feelings, and doing things that make you happy

Social self-care: Spending time with people you love, volunteering, maintaining interpersonal relationships, and having healthy relationships

Spiritual self-care: Reflecting on values, finding your purpose, engaging in religious practices, expressing gratitude, and connecting with nature"
