Today was a reminder of what community is all about…neighbors, families, longtime East Austinites, and new community members all sharing space together.

This is how we bridge old East Austin and new East Austin: by showing up for one another.

Community doesn’t happen by accident.
It takes work and investment.
CommUNITY First!

Over 70% of District 3 residents rent, and more than half of all Austinites rent, too! Austin is a renter majority city, which makes it crucial that we equip folks with the necessary tools and information to advocate for their rights and protections.

Gracias to BASTA Austin for hosting a renters’ rights teach-in last week in District 3 and for letting me join in on one of the skits 👀

Attendees got important info on their right to:
🪧 organize
🧑‍⚖️ appear before a judge before eviction
🔨 repairs that affect health and safety and more!

Honored to have been part of the inaugural K*T Festival this past weekend for an important and critical conversation on how we're working to protect our immigrant neighbors.

Thank you to K*T Austin, to our fellow panelists for their work in this fight, and to Central Machine Works Austin for sharing their space with the community. 🤝

Hands down one of my favorite days of the year… Reading Rally Day at Zavala!

Nine years in and I still get just as hyped to show up as a proud “Cheer Reader” 📖💥

Big love to the incredible Zavala team and our PSSs for pouring into our young readers and making this day special every single year. Y’all are magic.

A special shoutout to Ms. Martinez and her pre-k crew for the warmest welcome, y’all made my whole day. 🫶🏽

I was honored to celebrate and recognize Austin ISD Volunteer Program Appreciation Day! 🍎

Volunteers are essential to our schools, to our communities, and to the growth and development of our kiddos. Our schools are better off because of their shared commitment to our students' wellbeing, education, and success.

To every Austin ISD volunteer: your time is precious, it is valued, and makes a world of difference, and we thank you for your service.

Special thank you to Sandra Grimaldo Hernandez, AISD Volunteer Specialist, for her leadership and to Lucia Vargas Tamayo, one of Mendez Middle School’s 2025-26 Volunteers of the Year!

At this week's Austin City Council meeting were discussing ways to improve public health and safety, solar programs, zoning and more!

I'm proud to be supporting the following resolutions, including bringing forward Item 39 that seeks to increase transparency regarding zoning.

📞 Item 37: Creates a process to explore strategies and policies to provide assurance of safety and protection to victims, witnesses, and vulnerable community members when they call City emergency services.

🏡 Item 39: Increases transparency by giving the Community Development Commission an opportunity to review rezoning applications that affect existing multifamily properties.

☀️ Item 41: Explores the creation and expansion of solar programs and options for increasing community participation.

💻 Watch the council meeting live tomorrow on ATXN at 10 a.m. on austintexas.gov/watch-atxn-live
