I had an exciting meeting this morning when I had the pleasure of meeting Abraham in town. Abraham has been in the restaurant business for 40+ years and will be opening a Mexican food restaurant here in town!

It will be located next to Fetch and Valentinos. They’re looking to open around the start of next year.

We are incredibly proud of the service Chief Andrew Hilscher has provided, not only to the City of Bennington, but to communities across Nebraska throughout his career.

Today, Chief Hilscher received his plaque recognizing his service as President of the Metropolitan Chiefs Association, an honor that reflects the leadership and respect he has earned among his fellow law enforcement professionals.

Under Andrew’s leadership, the Bennington Police Department has continued to develop into a highly trained, professional, and prepared department. Our officers have not only received specialized training in these areas, but have also been trainers in these areas themselves, including Tactical Response, Specialized Response, Critical Incident Response, Emergency Response, and numerous other areas that prepare them to respond effectively when our community needs them most.

Chief Hilscher’s commitment to training, leadership, and service has helped strengthen not only his department, but the safety and preparedness of the entire Bennington community.

Thank you, Chief Hilscher, for your leadership, your dedication, and your commitment to serving others. We are proud to have you leading the Bennington Police Department!

Proud of the work our officers do everyday! Hopefully this family can now start healing and find some peace.

9/14/26 City Council Meeting Highlights:

-Budget was finalized. Levy will drop 1.4% this coming budget cycle. We will again have some larger capital projects this year. New cruiser and asphalt overlay are two examples. We cut back on some spending though as to still be in a strong position.

-Strong June sales tax month.

-Approved text amendment and change of zoning to allow for the consideration for a conditional use permit for a micro distillery in C4 flex business zoning.

-Approved bid for Neumeyer Farm phase 2. Blade Masters was the winning bid. Dirt work could start as soon as October. Phase 2 includes four sodded fields, sidewalks, on-street parking and some amenities (like benches).

-2026 Street patching project was completed and paid. Came in under budget.

-Approved one and six year street plan. We should be approving an overlay project here soon for several stretches of road in town.

-Had a discussion with a downtown business owner in regards to setting up a Downtown Improvement District. Was very productive and they have a good path forward with next steps.

-Ducky (K9 unit) assisted OPD with a bust. Sniffed out 6 pounds of m**h. Good work!

-Approved liquor licenses for our upcoming Founder’s Day on September 26.

Congrats!
