Family caregivers play an important role in supporting individuals with disabilities to live in their homes, maintain relationships, and participate in their communities.

With access to appropriate home- and community-based services (HCBS), individuals can receive support that respects their choices, supports their personal goals, and promotes independence.

This month, we recognize family caregivers and highlight the importance of building communities where everyone has opportunities to belong, contribute, and thrive.

The Olmstead Coordinator has been busy helping young voters learn about voting, understand their rights, and prepare to make their voices heard! Many students took the opportunity to practice using the ExpressVote machine and make a plan to get out and vote.

Helping young people feel confident and prepared to participate in the voting process is an important step toward building a more inclusive and accessible democracy.

Although NDEAM is coming to a close, disability inclusion is a year-round commitment!

Inclusion means more than having a job. It means having opportunities to live, work, and participate in the community with choice, independence, and dignity.

Thank you to the employers, employees, advocates, service providers, and communities working to break down barriers and create more inclusive workplaces and communities. Together, we can help ensure individuals with disabilities have opportunities to pursue their goals, contribute their talents, and be part of their communities.

North Dakota's Workers with Disabilities Medicaid Coverage program helps eligible individuals with disabilities work while maintaining access to health care coverage through Medicaid.

Eligible individuals can buy into Medicaid by paying a monthly premium based on their income. The program can help individuals pursue employment without having to choose between working and access to health coverage.

Employment should open doors to opportunity, not create unnecessary barriers to health care.

Have you tried the ExpressVote machine?

The ExpressVote is an accessible voting machine that any voter can use! It lets you make your selections on a touchscreen. It can read the ballot aloud, enlarge text, and offer other features to help voters cast their ballot privately and independently.

Everyone deserves the opportunity to vote independently!

What Is an ABLE Account?

ABLE accounts are tax-advantaged savings and investment accounts for eligible individuals with disabilities. They can help individuals save for qualified disability-related expenses, such as education, housing, transportation, assistive technology, and employment-related costs. For individuals who qualify, ABLE accounts can help them save for the future while maintaining their benefits.

While the Bank of North Dakota doesn’t offer ABLE accounts, ND residents can get ABLE accounts through other states.
