👏 That's a wrap on our 2026 Fall Public Hearings!

Last Wednesday, the Committee on Children concluded our statewide tour in Columbia with the largest public hearing in the Committee's history!

Over the past six weeks, we've traveled across South Carolina, hearing directly from families, advocates, service providers, experts, and community members about the challenges facing our children and opportunities to improve outcomes across the state.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who took the time to testify, attend, or otherwise support our five public hearings in Conway, Greenville, Charleston, Rock Hill, and Columbia. Your experiences, concerns, and recommendations are invaluable to the Committee's work.

Now, the real work begins! We'll take everything we've heard from communities across the state and begin turning those conversations into legislative priorities and recommendations for the upcoming session.

Thank you, South Carolina, for making your voices heard and helping shape the future of our state's children and families!

📣 Columbia, you're up!

Today marks the final stop of the Committee on Children's 2026 Fall Public Hearings! We're closing out our statewide tour at the South Carolina State House, where we'll hear directly from South Carolinians about the issues affecting children and families across our state.

🚪 Important Entrance Information: Due to construction, the Gressette Building's main entrance is temporarily closed. Please enter on the north side of the building, facing the State House. Room 105 is located just inside this entrance.

Thank you to the Middle Tyger Education Center team for welcoming the Committee during our visit to the Upstate! We appreciated the opportunity to tour your new facility, learn more about your work, and engage in a thoughtful conversation about childcare in South Carolina.

Thank you to the SC Joint Citizens & Legislative Committee on Children(JCLC) for visiting the new Middle Tyger Education Center as part of your Upstate listening tour!

We were honored to share our campus and engage in meaningful dialogue about the importance of high-quality, affordable, and accessible childcare in South Carolina. Thank you for listening to our experiences and recognizing the vital role childcare plays in supporting children, families, and our workforce.

Last Wednesday, the Committee on Children held the fourth stop of our 2026 Fall Public Hearings at Rock Hill City Hall!

We appreciated the opportunity to hear directly from members of the York County community about the challenges facing South Carolina’s children and families, as well as their ideas and recommendations for addressing them.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to testify, attend, and contribute to these important conversations. Each hearing brings new perspectives that help inform the Committee’s work moving forward.

On Wednesday, October 7, at City Hall, the SC Joint Citizens & Legislative Committee on Children will host a Public Hearing in Council Chambers from 5 PM - 7 PM.
