We are incredibly proud and grateful to share some very exciting news for Greendell Station Museum and the Lackawanna Cut-Off Historical Committee! 🎉

Our application to the New Jersey Historic Trust for funding to develop a Historic Preservation Plan for Greendell Station’s site has been recommended for funding in the amount of $38,342, with $12,782 in matching funds to be provided by our Committee.

This is a tremendous milestone for the preservation of Greendell Station and will provide us with an important roadmap for the continued preservation, restoration, and responsible stewardship of this remarkable historic site.

We are deeply grateful to Connolly & Hickey Historical Architects, LLC for their invaluable assistance with our application and for their continued partnership as they help guide us through the development of the Historic Preservation Plan.

We also extend our heartfelt thanks to Green Township, NJ TRANSIT, and the New Jersey Department of Transportation, as well as our historical society peers at TOYX, United Railroad Historical Society of NJ, and Tri-State Railway Historical Society, for their tremendous support and encouragement.

Most importantly, our $12,782 match will come from private donations and fundraising. We are endlessly grateful to everyone who has donated, volunteered, fundraised, or simply believed in our mission. The preservation of Greendell Station truly would not be possible without you and we are so excited to begin showing results from that support!

However, there is still much work ahead - Continued support is more important than ever as we build the matching funds needed for future construction phases, including an upcoming phase to reintroduce electricity to Greendell Station:

Greendell Station Museum, which is the primary Historical Preservation Project of the Lackawanna Cut-Off Historical Committee, is requesting support:
• Any financial donations will be used as matching funds for future grant applications. Our next grant application will focus on electricity for the station, which will greatly enhance our interior display options as well as visibility and accessibility for open houses.
• In-person assistance with site maintenance is a huge help for the upkeep and protection of the property.
• We also welcome anyone interested in becoming involved with the committee to reach out so we may include you on future updates for open houses and work sessions and if you would like to become further involved in the committee itself.

As always, if you’re simply just interested to learn more about Greendell Station, the Lackawanna Cut-Off, DL&W RR or Sussex County, we’d love to help you explore and understand the deeper importance of railroads in the United States, NJ and the surrounding communities that they helped to build.

The historical legacy of Green Township and the rich railroading heritage of Sussex County are at a critical turning point, and we need your help to safeguard them. I am Keith with the Lackawanna Cutoff Historical Committee. I am making this post and ask for your support in saving and fully restoring the historic Greendell Train Station.

Our vision is to transform this local icon into a vibrant museum highlighting the storied history of the Lackawanna Railroad alongside the deep agricultural roots of Sussex County. We are proud to be collaborating with renowned preservation architects Connolly & Hickey Historical Architects to ensure every detail of the restoration meets the highest standards, but securing future matching state and federal grants requires us to raise critical local funding now.

Every dollar you contribute directly fuels our progress and helps preserve this landmark for generations to come. Please consider making a donation today, and be sure to join us for our upcoming open house on October 31st at 6:00 PM to see our progress firsthand!
