Thank you, Sterilite Corporation! 💙

We recently had the chance to join Sterilite’s United Way Agency Fair, where our Community Engagement Coordinator, Travis Fisher-King, represented Humility Homes and Services alongside other United Way partner agencies. It was a great opportunity to share our mission and connect with Sterilite employees.

On top of welcoming us, Sterilite employees collected clothing, shoes, food, and hygiene items for the participants we serve who are experiencing homelessness. These donations meet real, everyday needs and help our neighbors feel cared for and supported.

We’re so grateful for Sterilite’s generosity and for the employees who gave their time and resources. We are community together!

Some people sleep outside even when a bed is available.

The reason? They won’t leave their pet behind. 🐾

But what happens when the only available shelter or apartment says “no pets allowed”?

A new report shared by the National Low Income Housing Coalition found that many youth facing homelessness are forced to choose between getting help and keeping their pets. Researchers spoke with young adults ages 18–25 and found that pet restrictions in housing and shelters, gaps in vet care, and transportation challenges often keep them from accessing the services they need.

The good news? Small changes make a big difference. Something as simple as asking about pets on an intake form can help youth get connected to housing without leaving a loved one behind.

No one should have to give up their best friend to find a safe place to sleep. 💙

Did you know Humility Homes & Services has a Street Outreach Team? 💙

Every day, our outreach navigators meet neighbors living unsheltered across the Quad Cities, right where they are. They bring water, blankets, and hygiene supplies, but most importantly, they build trust. That trust helps them understand each person’s barriers to housing and connect them to the right services.

They also work alongside local businesses and law enforcement to address concerns with compassion and dignity for all.

This work is both beautiful and challenging. There are moments of real joy, like when someone finally accepts help or spends their first night indoors in years. There are also hard days filled with extreme weather, heavy stories, and progress that comes slowly. Through it all, our team keeps showing up, and we’re so thankful for the heart they bring to our community.

At Humility Homes & Services, volunteers help us work toward ending homelessness in the Quad Cities. You can give a few hours or get involved on an ongoing basis, and either way your time makes a real difference.

You might help at our Fresh Start Thrift Store or Corner Closet Donation Center, do yard work at our housing units, organize donations, or pitch in at special events. No experience is needed, just a willingness to help and a kind heart. 💙

Veteran homelessness is projected to drop 8.2% this year, the biggest decline in a decade. 🇺🇸

A new preliminary analysis from Community Solutions estimates that the number of veterans experiencing homelessness nationwide will fall below 30,000 in 2026. That would be the lowest since veterans were first included in the national Point-in-Time count in 2009. In 2011, that number was around 75,000.

This progress didn’t happen by accident. It came from years of steady investment in what works: housing first, paired with real support services. The article also credits state and local organizations for filling gaps and connecting veterans to the help they need.
