Freedom Friday for two Ring-billed Gulls! 🧡
Why fly when you can strut? These two took their time strolling down the sidewalk, choosing to walk through the shelter rather than fly over it before finally taking to the skies.
Look closely in the background—you can see the river, with plenty of gull friends waiting for them!
The younger gull came into care after being found in a Walmart parking lot in Sioux City. He was thin and extremely weak. After a thorough exam by our friends and colleagues at Nebraska Wildlife Rehab, Inc., we treated him for parasites and gave him plenty of fresh food, rest, and time to regain his strength.
The older gull was rescued at Saylorville Reservoir by our volunteers Rickie and Nancy. He was tangled in fishing line, with a large hook piercing both his wing and foot. The entanglement had also left him with a sore shoulder.
Two different rescue stories, one beautiful morning, and a shared return to freedom.
Watching them take their time before taking flight made this release all the sweeter. 🧡
