A special thank you goes to General Line and Service Supervisor Lance Littlefield and the dedicated Dothan Utilities crew for their hard work installing these decorations. Their expertise and willingness to help make projects like this possible, and we are incredibly grateful for their partnership.

π§ ONLY RAIN BELONGS IN THE STORM DRAIN π§
Did you know that water entering a storm drain does not go to a treatment plant? Through the City of Dothan's Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4), stormwater flows directly into local streams, creeks, and waterways.
π« Never put these items in storm drains:
β’ Grass clippings
β’ Leaves
β’ Trash and litter
β’ Dirt and sediment
β’ Motor oil
β’ Paint and chemicals
β’ Pet waste
β’ Yard debris
β’ Household wastewater
π« Never put your clippings, leaves, or yard debris directly on top of the storm drain.
π Myth: "Grass and leaves are natural, so they won't hurt anything."
β
Fact: Grass clippings and leaves can clog storm drains, contribute to flooding, reduce oxygen levels in waterways as they decompose, and negatively impact water quality.
Protecting our stormwater system helps:
β Reduce neighborhood flooding
β Keep storm drains functioning properly
β Protect local streams and waterways
β Reduce pollution
β Ensure compliance with state and federal stormwater regulations
What you can do:
β’ Bag leaves and grass for collection
β’ Keep yard debris out of streets and gutters
β’ Secure trash on collection day
β’ Sweep grass back onto your lawn instead of into the street
β’ Report illegal dumping
β οΈ Dumping debris, grass clippings, leaves, trash, or other pollutants into storm drains, drainage ditches, or waterways may be considered an illicit discharge and can result in enforcement action, fines, and cleanup costs.
Together, we can help keep Dothan's waterways clean and our neighborhoods protected. ππ
