Garden City PD at the IACP Conference in Orlando! đźš”

Chief Black and Sergeant Amick are in Orlando, Florida, this week for the 2026 International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Annual Conference and Exposition.

The conference brings together law enforcement leaders from around the world to share best practices, learn about new technology, and discuss the latest trends in policing. We’re bringing back ideas, training, and connections that help us serve Garden City.

Thank you to our community and Town leadership for supporting our commitment to professional development. Staying current is how we keep Garden City safe!

Garden City Police Department — Back-to-School Safety Reminder

As students return to the classroom, the Garden City Police Department is reminding drivers, parents, and pedestrians to stay alert in school zones and around school buses.

Slow Down in School Zones
Reduced speed limits are in effect during posted school hours. Officers will be increasing patrols near bus drop-off points to enforce speed limits and keep students safe as they walk, bike, and are dropped off.

Stop for School Buses
Colorado law requires drivers to stop for school buses with flashing red lights and an extended stop arm — in both directions on undivided roads. Passing a stopped school bus is illegal and dangerous, and violators can face fines and license points.

Watch for Pedestrians
Kids are excited to be back and don't always look before crossing. Drivers should stay off phones, watch for children near bus stops and crosswalks, and be especially cautious in neighborhoods and near schools during morning and afternoon rush.

Tips for Parents and Students

Arrive at the bus stop a few minutes early — no need to rush into the street.
Wait until the bus comes to a complete stop before approaching it.
Make eye contact with drivers before crossing in front of a vehicle.
Walk, don't run, across streets and crosswalks.

The Garden City Police Department wishes all students, families, and staff a safe and successful start to the school year.

GCPD appreciates Colorado legislators for recognizing the flaws in House Bill 26-1037, which failed Wednesday in the House Judiciary Committee.

HB26-1037 would have limited law enforcement’s access to basic identifying information — tools widely used to respond to active threats, solve crimes, help victims and keep communities safe.

Just as concerning, the bill would have restricted law enforcement access to the same kind of information available to private actors like bail bondsmen and investigators, creating a double standard that wouldn’t make communities safer.

We appreciate the recognition that effective public safety requires policies that protect both privacy and community safety.

Garden City Police Department is officially announcing our participation in the Blue Envelope Program.

The Blue Envelope Program is a nationwide initiative launched in Connecticut in 2020. It is designed to aid individuals with communication challenges during interactions with emergency service personnel. The program focuses on providing clear and simple communication tools, especially for those on the autism spectrum or those that may suffer from other disabilities or mental health conditions, to reduce anxiety and misunderstanding during traffic stops and other emergency service encounters.

For more information or to participate in the program, please follow the link below to the Town of Garden City Website.
