You don't have to have all the answers to make a difference. Great CASA volunteers listen, care, follow through, and show up for the young people they advocate for.
If you see a little of yourself in those qualities, you might already have what it takes to be a CASA.

We’re wrapping up our 2026 legislative recap with two final bills signed into California law! 🎉

📍Assembly Bill 2684, authored by Assemblymember Stephanie Nguyen, gives non-minor dependents placed out of state the option to have their monthly visit virtually.

📍Assembly Bill 2478, authored by Assemblymember Nick Schultz and Assemblymember Jose Luis Solache, establishes a Kinship Family Approval program, resulting in more successful recruitment of kin caregivers and more placements of children with people they already know and love.

Thank you to Governor Gavin Newsom for supporting these bills and helping advance this important legislation.

🎉With AB 2684 and AB 2478 signed into law, we’re proud to celebrate the NINE bills we supported this legislative session:

AB 2684 – Virtual Visitation for Non-Minor Dependents
AB 1824 – Indian Child Welfare & Tribal Protections
AB 1659 – Juvenile Court School Transition Planning
AB 1996 – Child Poverty Reduction Advisory Council
AB 1846 – Placement with Relatives
AB 2764 – Extended Foster Care Eligibility
AB 2766 – Postsecondary Housing Support
AB 2478 - Kinship Family Approval
SB 1345 – Personal Belongings & Dignity

Thank you to the legislators, advocates, and partners who helped move these bills forward! ❤️

📣Assembly Bill 2766 was just signed into California law!

Thank you to Governor Gavin Newsom for supporting this bill authored by Patrick Ahrens, which requires community colleges to prioritize student housing for youth in foster care or experiencing homelessness. 🇭🇳🇨🇱🇧🇿 Happy Hispanic Heritage Month🇲🇽🇸🇻🇬🇹🇨🇷

Representation matters. For many young people in foster care feeling seen starts with feeling understood.

Hispanic youth make up the largest group of children in California's foster care system. Spanish-speaking and culturally connected CASA volunteers can help young people feel seen, heard, and supported- while celebrating the language, culture, and identity that make them who they are.

This Hispanic Heritage Month, consider showing up for a young person in our community and helping them feel seen, supported, and proud of who they are.

Our next training begins in a few weeks. Join an upcoming Info Session to learn how you can show up for a young person in foster care.
