Your mobile phone will be busy on Thursday as conducts a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA). The WEA portion of the test commences at 2:18 p.m. EDT, and the EAS portion follows at 2:20 p.m. EDT. The test will assess the operational readiness of the infrastructure for distribution of a national message and determine whether improvements are needed. The WEA test message will be sent to mobile phones that are connected to wireless providers participating in WEA.

There will be continued rain and embedded thunderstorms in the region throughout the remainder of the week. It looks like Tropical Storm Gordon will remain well to the east of the north Texas area. Stay weather aware!

Numerous to scattered showers and storms are expected today (Labor Day) so stay weather aware. Our partners at the US National Weather Service Fort Worth Texas are keeping an eye on Tropical Storm Gordon for a potential track towards North Texas which could result in increasing rain chances late in the week.

The ban on outdoor burning in Tarrant County has been lifted.

The US National Weather Service Fort Worth Texas says scattered showers and storms will develop this afternoon across the western areas and track northeast. A low severe weather threat exists with these storms. Where rainfall has been heaviest over the last few days there is an increased potential for flash flooding.

The National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) -- the nation's support center for wildland fire -- has released a rundown of the states with the most year-to-date fires and acres burned. TX and CA have had the most fires. Tarrant County remains under an outdoor burn ban. We appreciate all of the firefighters across our county, the state and out west for the tireless work they do every summer to keep our communities safe.
