🚨OctoberBoard of Trustees Meeting 🚨
The Allegany County Library Board of Trustees will meet next week, on Tuesday, October 13 at 4:00 PM, at the George's Creek Library.
The public is welcome to attend in-person or via the online Zoom Meeting platform.
To ensure a secure online meeting, those interested in attending via Zoom can send an email to [email protected] to request the meeting credentials. Email requests for attending will be accepted until 1:00 PM on Monday, October 12.

Books and other library resources should be provided for the interest, information, and enlightenment of all people in the community we serve. Libraries should provide materials and information presenting all points of view on current and historical issues. We believe that our community should have the freedom to consider a broader range of ideas than those that may be held by any single individual, publisher, government or church. The reliance on freedom of individual choice allows the library system to fulfill our obligation to provide a wide array of materials to enrich and improve the lives of those in the community we serve.

A huge THANK YOU to OUR Library Ambassadors, Jason and Danielle Willetts and the Friends of the Washington Street Library!

We are beyond grateful to the Willetts for donating 8 matching office chairs, and to the Friends for generously covering the cost of 2 additional chairs, completing a full replacement of the seating at Washington Street Library’s public computer station.

After years of wear and tear, the mismatched chairs are being retired. This upgrade provides a fresh look and comfortable seating for our patrons. Almost all of our funding goes to simply keeping the facilities open, leaving less available for collections, technology, and routine needs such as furniture and building maintenance. Library Ambassadors like the Willetts and Friends of the Washington Street Library help fill those gaps.

Thank you to our ambassadors for helping us keep the library safe, welcoming, and ready for our community!

The Dollywood Foundation has established September 25 as “Give Like Dolly Day” to honor Dolly Parton and celebrate the impact of the Imagination Library.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a book-gifting program that mails free, high-quality books to children from birth to age five, regardless of their family’s income. The Imagination Library of Allegany County, started in 2011, works to put books into the hands of local children and encourage a lifelong love of reading. Through community support and partnerships, children across Allegany County can experience the excitement of receiving a new book of their very own each month.

We started with a room PACKED FULL of all kinds of arts and crafts supplies, and ended with just this 1 tote bag and 1 small box leftover! ♻️

Update: Kiwi is home! 🫶🏼 Thank you to everyone who shared this post to help Kiwi find her family!

We have a very important announcement from our newest (and fluffiest) library volunteer, Kiwi Bird! 🐦

Last week, a little library lover accidentally left behind her beloved stuffy, Kiwi, at the Frostburg Library. 💔

Since then, Kiwi has been busy shelving books, filling out her Summer Reading Log, emptying the book drop, organizing our seed library, and even teaching one of our free art programs! While she’s been a wonderful library helper, she’s told us she’s ready to go home now, and be reunited with her best friend.

If you know Kiwi’s family, please let them know she’s safe and waiting for them at the Frostburg Library. We’d love to help this little bird find her way back home!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our first Meal in a Mug at Allegany Farmers Markets at City Place on Friday, and to all the amazing folks with Frostburg Summer Lunch Box Program who made this possible! 😄

Library staff guided the youth of our community in learning how to make their own berry banana smoothies, and served over 150 attendees. We will be back at City Place for additional Meal in a Mug at Frostburg Farmers Market on July 10, 24, and August 7 for cooking demonstrations with new recipes! Come join the fun!
