REMINDER: On Tuesday, November 17, 2026, around 2:20 p.m. ET, FEMA and the Federal Communications Commission will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS).

The test will air on radio and TV only and will not be sent to mobile phones. No action is needed from the public.

Federal law requires FEMA to conduct a nationwide EAS test at least once every three years. Routine tests help ensure the alert system is ready to provide timely information when it matters most.

Following the test, FEMA and our partners will review the results and identify opportunities to strengthen future alerting capabilities.

The Girard Firefighters Association extends a sincere thank-you to the Kansas State Firefighters Association and all its instructors for an outstanding weekend of training here in Girard!

From live fire and farm machine extrication to reading smoke, ropes, and forcible entry, these instructors shared valuable knowledge and hands-on skills. We appreciate their time, dedication, and commitment to providing quality, free training for the fire service.

Thank you to all the departments and agencies that joined us, including those who traveled as far away as from Burlington, Kansas. We appreciate everyone who took time out of their weekend to learn, train, and work alongside fellow firefighters.

Finally, a personal thank-you to our personnel who worked tirelessly over the past several days preparing for this weekend. Your hard work behind the scenes helped make this training possible. As Chief, I am proud of your dedication and the way you represented our department and community.

Thank you to everyone who took time away from your families to helped, instructed, and attended. This is what the brotherhood and sisterhood of the fire service is all about working together, learning together, and helping one another improve. Thank you

Respectfully
Chief Turner
