🐎Officer Helm officially completed mounted patrol training and is now certified for crowd-control operations.
Mounted patrols are one of those things people think look cool in photos… until they see how effective they actually are during large events and crowded situations. The height advantage gives officers a better view over crowds, horses move through congested areas well, and somehow people suddenly remember how to behave when approached by 1,200 pounds of professionalism.
The training itself is no joke either. It takes a ton of control, communication, and trust between the officer and horse to safely work in loud, chaotic environments full of people, traffic, music, and distractions.
We’re proud of the work Officer Helm put into completing the training!
🚨 OFFICER-INVOLVED INCIDENT 🚨
Today, one of our officers made the mistake of walking across the footbridge while making direct eye contact with the squirrel that lives there.
Witnesses say the squirrel immediately took that personally.
Without hesitation, the squirrel launched itself onto the officer like it was defending Gotham City while innocent civilians watched a fully-equipped police officer get physically humbled by something that routinely eats out of trash cans.
The squirrel was last seen returning to his post on the bridge, presumably waiting for the next victim. 🐿️
🔥🧯Somebody out here really said, “You know what Glendale needs today? Fire.”
Not one. Not two. At least three separate fires along the Cherry Creek bike path.
Our officers showed up and immediately switched from patrol mode to “we’re not letting this turn into a news headline” mode—thinking fast and putting them out before things got out of control.
Also… in case it needs to be said:
Colorado is dry. Like “this could go very bad, very fast” dry. We’re in one of the worst drought conditions we’ve seen in decades, which means even small fires don’t stay small.
So here’s your friendly guidance:
Stop lighting things on fire.
If you see something suspicious, call it in. If you are the suspicious activity… knock it off.

Incidents that put multiple people at risk are something our officers see firsthand. Colorado’s current law recognizes that broader danger — and changes under HB 26-1281 could significantly affect how those cases are charged.
We stand with the prosecutors and families who shared their stories and concerns. This is about public safety and the value we place on human life.
Coloradans who share these concerns should contact their state legislators and make their voices heard as the bill moves forward.
Colorado District Attorneys' Council
A controversial bill at the Colorado Capitol is drawing emotional testimony from prosecutors and victims’ families, as lawmakers consider changes to how some of the state’s most serious crimes are charged.
