Firefighting AND storytime? Best. Day. Ever. ๐๐
Our crew stopped by the Granite Bay Public Library this morning for Firefighter Storytime and had the BEST time!
These little ones and their families are the reason we do what we do. Thank you for having us! ๐งก

๐ You may have spotted our crew cruising around in our soon-to-be delivered new fire engine, and yes, we're just as excited as you are! But we wanted to share why this moment matters so much to our community.
Approved in June 2025, this engine cost $1,023,973, $900,000 sof that was saved over five years through mitigation funds, with the remainder from apparatus replacement savings. We will officially take ownership in 2026.
We chose a stock vehicle rather than a custom build, which kept costs down and avoided the nearly 4-year lead time custom engines now require. Finding a stock engine that matched our existing fleet still took close to a year.
The cost of fire engines has skyrocketed ๐
2021 average: $680,000
Today's average: $1.5 million
That's more than double in five years. Outside of this new engine, our fleet averages 10 years old - aging equipment means outdated technology, and our community deserves better.
We respond to thousands of emergency medical calls every year and two stations have had to close in recent years. Advance purchasing decisions like this one are how we work to stay ahead.
Without a new, steady funding source, future equipment investments will mean cuts elsewhere. This isn't mismanagement, it's the result of a funding model unchanged since 1981 and soaring equipment costs.

๐ฅ FIREWORKS ARE BANNED IN UNINCORPORATED PLACER COUNTY๐ฅ
This includes ALL fireworks, even "safe and sane" varieties.
As we head into summer, South Placer Fire District wants our community to know: no fireworks of any kind are permitted in the unincorporated areas of Placer County.
Help us protect our neighborhoods and open spaces by spreading the word.

๐ Did you know over 90% of our calls are medical emergencies?
Every day, our EMS crews show up fast and ready because in those moments, every second counts. This week, we celebrate our dedicated firefighters who save lives before the hospital doors ever open. โค๏ธ

โค๏ธโ๐ฉน The best first responder is sometimes the person already in the room. Through our Stop the Bleed and hands-only CPR programs, we're putting life-saving skills into the hands of students, families, and everyday community members. From school visits to station tours, our crews are proud to help prepare the next generation to step up when it matters most. ๐ซ

Weโve taken meaningful steps to operate efficiently while maintaining the best possible service:
โข Secured grants
โข Improved billing practices
โข Optimized administrative positions and reduced overhead costs
โข Cross-trained personnel to retain and recruit the best firefighters, medics and support staff
We continue to pursue grants and cut costs, but these efforts alone cannot sustain emergency services at the level our community deserves.
