Hagerstown and Washington County Professional Firefighters to Provide Free Coats to 3 Washington County Public Schools
Through its longstanding partnership with Operation Warm, a national nonprofit dedicated to providing essential resources to children in need, IAFF Local 1605, which represents the professional firefighters of Hagerstown and Washington County, will distribute 243 brand-new winter coats to students at Bester Elementary School. The distribution will take place at the school on November 4, 2026, at 9:00 a.m.
The initiative will continue on November 6, 2026, at 9:00 a.m., when students at Lincolnshire Elementary School in Halfway, Maryland, will receive 153 new winter coats. Students at Funkstown Elementary School will also benefit from the program, with 12 children receiving coats through a separate distribution.
For 14 years, IAFF Local 1605 has partnered with Operation Warm to help keep local children warm during the winter months. Through this partnership, firefighters have provided approximately 3,000 free coats to students attending Title I schools throughout Hagerstown and, more recently, Washington County.
This annual initiative reflects IAFF Local 1065's ongoing commitment to supporting local families and ensuring children have the essential resources they need to stay warm, comfortable, and ready to learn throughout the winter season.
