Keys? Found them. Phone? Got it. Sunglasses? Apparently, they’ve been supervising the search from the top of your head.

Sound familiar?

When there’s a lot on your mind, stress can make it harder to concentrate. Give yourself a moment to pause, take a breath, and focus on one thing at a time.

Keeping medications secure helps protect children, teens and others in your home.

This Red Ribbon Week, check for unused or expired medicines, lock up those you still need, and never share prescriptions.

Ask your local pharmacist where to take unwanted medication and how to dispose of it correctly.

This Red Ribbon Week, help your child practice what to say if offered alcohol or other drugs: “No thanks.” “I don’t want any.” “That’s not for me.”

And remind them: “You can call me anytime. No judgment. I’ll come and get you.”

Out in the Community!

Florida Parishes Human Services Authority attended all five days of the Washington Parish Free Fair in Franklinton, sharing resources and literature on prevention and the services we provide. This longstanding community event has drawn more than 300,000 visitors in past years.

Our very own Melissa and Sharon spent a day working the table!

Thank you to all our wonderful volunteers. Your presence at the fair made a huge difference—talking with the public, answering questions, and helping people learn about prevention and the services available through FPHSA.

More photos to come!

Sometimes a little check-in can mean a lot.

This Red Ribbon Week, make time to ask how your child is doing. Changes in mood, sleep, behavior, grades or routines can be a reason to pause and listen.

“How’s everything going? I’m here if you want to talk.”

Keep the conversation open—including questions about alcohol and other drugs.

Know their world—because they are your world.

This Red Ribbon Week, get to know their friends, take an interest in their online lives and keep conversations about alcohol and other drugs open.

Be curious. Listen. Stay involved.

The fish might not be biting, but Dad’s giving everyone something to laugh about! 😂

This Red Ribbon Week, make room for time together—fishing, sharing a meal or letting the children discover your “legendary” dance moves.

These everyday moments are opportunities to listen, talk and remind your children they can come to you with questions about alcohol, other drugs or anything worrying them.

Your dance moves may be questionable. Your time together matters.

Start Young

As we continue Red Ribbon Week, remember that conversations about alcohol and other drugs can begin early, using words your child understands.

You don’t need a perfect speech. Everyday moments—riding in the car, sharing a meal or sitting together—can be opportunities to talk.

Ask what they’ve heard, listen to their questions and keep your answers simple and honest. As they grow, let the conversation grow with them.

Let them know: “You can always come to me with questions.”

Little conversations today can open the door to bigger conversations tomorrow.
