BIG NEWS: Cullman County has a litter hero, and his name is Ron Wood.

Ron is the Cullman County Sheriff's Office environmental deputy. Every year he pulls an estimated 50,000 to 70,000 pounds of trash off our roadsides.

That's across about 100 miles of county roads.

His work is part of why the Sheriff's Office earns the State of Alabama's PALS (People Against a Littered State) Award each year.

And it doesn't stop at the ditch. Recyclables he collects are sold, and the money goes to nonprofits right here in Cullman County.

"Deputy Wood's dedication makes a real difference in our community," Sheriff Matt Gentry said.

Next time you pass that litter pick up trailer on the side of the road, give Ron a wave.
