Harvey Volunteer Fire Company #2 proudly congratulates Ashton Ruffin on his graduation from the recruit academy on October 20, 2026.

Completing this rigorous six-month training program demonstrates Ashton’s dedication, discipline, and commitment to protecting our community. As he transitions into his role as Firefighter/Operator, he will continue to sharpen his skills and build on this strong foundation.

We also extend a special thanks to Instructor Corey Orgeron, who taught the academy class. As a Harvey operator, Corey’s leadership and hands-on guidance were vital in shaping our newest firefighter.

Congratulations, Ashton, and thank you, Instructor Orgeron, for your dedication to our team!

Earlier today, the Harvey Volunteer Fire Company #2 was dispatched to a reported structure fire at an industrial scrapyard on Peters Road.

Initial size-up by a Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office (JPSO) aerial drone reported heavy black smoke with no visible flames coming from the warehouse. Upon arrival, crews made entry and located a large commercial dump truck on fire inside the building.

Thanks to the rapid and aggressive action of our first-due crew, the fire was successfully contained directly to the vehicle, preventing extension to the rest of the structure.

Peters Road was temporarily shut down to safely accommodate water supply operations, but has since fully reopened. Due to the nature of the engine fire, a significant amount of oil was released at the scene, requiring crews to perform thorough equipment decontamination upon returning to the station.

We appreciate the community's patience during the temporary road closure and the strong coordination with our partner agencies!
