Place of Grace real · lasting · life transformation What is Place of Grace? Place of Grace began serving women in the Huntington community at the beginning of 2017.

Place of Grace is a Christian-based transition home for women transitioning from incarceration back into the Huntington Community. Place of Grace had its beginnings in the fall of 2009 when a group of concerned community members began volunteering their time at the Huntington jail. These volunteers quickly saw a recurring pattern among the incarcerated women: many of these women did not belong in jail but instead needed a support system to help them break free from addictive patterns that perpetuate an unhealthy and destructive cycle that is void of hope for a better future.

Thank you, Pleasant Chapel, for allowing us to share about Place of Grace this morning.

We are so proud of the courage of our resident to share her “Story of Grace”! We are beyond grateful for congregations who not just support the work happening at Place of Grace but also embrace and encourage the women who call Place of Grace home.

September is National Recovery Month, and both here at Gracefully Gourmet and at Place of Grace, we’re celebrating!

For the entire month, if you’re part of the Recovery Community—whether you’re on day 1 or day 1,000—stop in and let our bakery staff know. We have a FREE treat for you!

We’d also love to celebrate your story in whatever way feels comfortable to you. You can have one of our staff take a Polaroid of you and write your name + your recovery milestone on the bottom or, if you’d rather not have your picture taken, simply add your name + recovery milestone to our celebration poster.
..and if you’re not personally in recovery, we invite you to pause at the poster when you visit. Say a little prayer for the stories represented there and remember that recovery doesn’t have one look, one story, or one timeline. The people in recovery aren’t separate from our community—they are a valued and vital part of it.

We’re proud to celebrate recovery here.

Today, we celebrate seven years of recovery for our Women’s Program Director, Joy Bir! 🥳

Over the past seven years, Joy has become a beacon of hope in our community. She has walked alongside people in some of their hardest moments, reminding them that their past does not have to define their future and that freedom really is possible.

Today, her story has come full circle. Joy now serves as the Women’s Program Director at the place where her own path toward freedom first began. She brings not only professional experience to this role, but also compassion, honesty and the kind of hope that comes from having walked the road herself.

Joy’s story reminds us that recovery does not always follow the path we expect. God works through every chapter, every step, and every open door ... and He is faithful to use our stories to bring hope to others.

Congratulations on seven years, Joy. We are grateful to see all God has done in your life and all He continues to do through you!

Recovery IS possible. 💜

Throughout September, in recognition of National Recovery Month, we will be continuing what we started at our Celebration Dinner - Stories of Grace: stories of women who have walked through the doors of Place of Grace and courageously begun building new lives.

Their stories include hard chapters, but those chapters do not have the final word. We have watched God bring healing, restore hope, and create possibilities that once felt far away.

Recovery is not something anyone does alone. It thrives through safe housing, accountability, meaningful relationships, opportunity and a community willing to believe that change is possible.

Join us this month as we celebrate the women behind the stories ... and the grace that continues to write them.
