Former MML President and Flora Mayor Les Childress has seen plenty of change in his community over the years. As nearby neighborhoods grow, Flora remains connected to its rural roots, with a mayor who still gets on a tractor to mow the town’s right-of-way!

The Northside Sun shares a look at Mayor Childress and the changes taking place around Flora.

MML staff spent the first part of this week in Biloxi attending the Mississippi Society of Association Executives (MSAE) Annual Conference!

This year’s conference marked MSAE’s 70th anniversary, celebrating seven decades of providing leadership development, professional education, and networking opportunities for association professionals across Mississippi. Attendees even got a little groovy during the opening night tradeshow in celebration of the milestone anniversary! ✌️🪩

MML is especially proud to celebrate two exciting recognitions from this year’s conference!

Tiffany Bush, MML Finance and Meetings Manager, was elected to serve a two-year term on the MSAE Board of Directors.

Shari Veazey, MML Executive Director, was recognized as a nominee for the Association Impact Award, which honors individuals whose leadership and work have created meaningful, measurable change through advocacy, programming, education, and outreach.

Congratulations to Tiffany and Shari! We are proud of their leadership and the impact they continue to make within MML and Mississippi’s association community!

MML attended the Southern Municipal Conference this week in Chattanooga, TN!

The Southern Municipal Conference is a network of state municipal leagues that share information and develop solutions to challenges affecting southern cities. The Summit includes tracks for Executive Directors, Deputy Directors, Lobbyists, IT Professionals and Event Planners.

We're thankful to have the dedication of our leadership team to take the time to network and learn from our neighboring Leagues on how to best serve members!

Mantee Celebrates Annual Black-Eyed Pea Festival!

The Town of Mantee enjoyed a beautiful day of community fun at its annual Black-Eyed Pea Festival on October 3! The festivities kicked off with a St. Jude 5K and 1-mile fun run featuring 95 participants. Throughout the day, attendees enjoyed live music from local performers, a patriotic children's bike parade, raffles, a silent auction, and a black-eyed pea cookoff featuring six teams. Congratulations to cookoff winner Jada Neal Blissard!

Proceeds from the festival will go toward continued improvements to the Mantee Recreation Area.

MML congratulates the Town of Mantee on another successful festival and recognizes the volunteers whose hard work made the event possible! Events like these are a wonderful reminder of the community spirit that makes Mississippi's small towns special!

Our Closing General Session Breakfast featured a delicious hot breakfast and several important presentations.

We first heard from professionals with the Southern Pines Animal Shelter on best practices and resources available for municipal and community based animal control efforts. As a thank you for their time, conference attendees brought donations for their shelter!

We then heard from VisitHATTIESBURG on public art programs within the City of Hattiesburg and how it has empowered the community and brought real change to its citizens.

Finally, MML 1st Vice President Mayor Butch Lee of Brandon facilitated a conversation with Ridgeland Public Works Director Alan Hart and Clinton Mayor Will Purdie on data centers and what municipal officials need to know as these new facilities continue to develop across the state.

Thanks to all of our attendees, sponsors, and speakers for making our 2026 Small Town Conference a success! Safe travels home to everyone, and we’ll see you next time!

We’re ending the day with a reception sponsored by Visit Hattiesburg and the Lake Terrace Convention Center! We’ve had nothing but rave reviews from attendees on this year’s conference, and it wouldn’t have been as big of a success without these two organizations.
