Better Weather. Better Information. Keeping Alaska Moving!
Our MXAK Field Operations crew, Collin and Ed, recently traveled to Gustavus to relocate an existing Marine Safety & Security Site from farther inland to the Alaska Marine Highway System dock!
Thanks to our continued partnership with Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities, this new waterfront location will provide more representative marine weather observations, helping improve the information available to AMHS vessels, recreational boaters, forecasters, and the maritime community.
Even better? You can explore the site's weather observations and trends through blueview.mxak.org
Meanwhile, Kole and Jarrett have been making hay while the sun shines, heading out to Cape Spencer for some important site maintenance!
With 140+ Marine Safety & Security Sites across Alaska, our Field Operations team stays busy year-round installing, maintaining, and improving the infrastructure that helps fill gaps in Alaska's maritime safety net. Even as winter approaches, the work doesn't stop!
A big thank-you to our partners at Alaska DOT&PF, Alaska Marine Highway (Alaska State Ferry), and the US National Weather Service Alaska for their continued collaboration. Better information means better decisions—and together, we're helping Keep Alaska Moving!
