The UCHS consists of members that either have ancestors buried in Union Cemetery or those interested in the history of Union Cemetery, Kansas City and the Midwest.

A little less than a month away now! 🖤🪦

I met SO many readers last night who were interested in Devour and its release party in November at Union Cemetery Historical Society, so I thought I’d make another post! This is a FREE event, but I am encouraging everyone to please make a donation to the cemetery to help with renovations.

I will have copies of Devour at the release party for purchase, and 10% of each book sale will be donated to Union Cemetery Historical Society. Also, if you’d like to guarantee a copy, you can order one online and bring it to get signed. We will be having special treats made for the event and just having a fun, spooky time hanging out at a cemetery!!

🌳🌳🌳What an incredible couple of months it has been around the cemetery. We've been quiet on social media, but work has been getting done! 💪🏻

Volunteer, David Haggard, worked diligently with Missouri Department of Conservation on a cost share grant to remove dead trees from the cemetery. These beautiful giants had long lifespans and were incredible in their years, but had become a danger to people, animals, and gravestones. 🪾🪚

The amazing work of Family Tree Service took down six dead trees, shown in the videos and photo above.
As part of this grant program we also had to bring new life into the cemetery. On Saturday, October 3rd, a group of volunteers planted 12 new native species saplings around the cemetery.

A huge shout out to Naseem Fordipour from Heartland Tree Alliance for coming out and sharing his wisdom and knowledge by doing a demonstration on planting the first tree and helping oversee the rest of the plantings. 🌳🌲

These new little trees are protected by a barrier of mulch and have stakes to help them grow tall and strong. We'll also be placing protectors on their trunks to protect them from animals and w**d eaters as they grow.💚

We're keeping an eye on the weather and have made the decision to postpone the first Historical Epitaphs tour today (Saturday May 30th) to 12:30. We still have a few tickets available at the door. We can't wait to see everyone!
