Thanks to everyone who joined us for the Community Baby Shower on June 12th! More than 160 WyCo moms and moms to-be attended the event. Vendors from 31 health and social service organizations provided education and resources. Attendees received free lunch catered by Hy-Vee and had the chance to take home giveaways, such as:
Baby formula
Safe sleep education and supplies
Diapers
Baby clothes
Pack ‘n Plays
Car seats
Infant safety kits
Infant toys
Books
Postpartum supplies
Fresh fruit
The event was hosted by our Youth Empowerment Services program and Healthy Blue, in partnership with the University of Kansas Health System Care Collaborative and the Health Department’s Healthy Families Wyandotte and WIC programs. Thanks so much to all of the partners who made this event possible!
On June 12th, the Wyandotte County Public Health Department hosted its annual community baby shower for over 160 Wyandotte County moms and moms to-be.
Participants received information and resources such as baby formula, safe sleep education and supplies , diapers, and clothing.
The event was hosted by our Youth Empowerment Services and Healthy Blue, in partnership with the University of Kansas, Healthy Families Wyandotte, & WIC. We’d like to thank all partners for helping make this event possible and serving the new mothers of WyCo.

Clinical services that will be temporarily unavailable on Friday include:
• Family planning services (except for pregnancy tests through the lab)
• Sexually transmitted infection (STI) services (except lab tests)
• Physical exams, including pre-employment physicals and sports and camp physicals
• Treatment for common symptoms (also known as Limited Primary Care services)
Clinical services that WILL still be available on Friday include:
• Laboratory services, including STI lab tests and pregnancy tests
• Tuberculosis skin tests
• Immunization services
• Free resource pick up, including condoms and naloxone (NARCAN)

Stay safe during the heat! Today, June 9, 2026, the Kansas City area is under a heat advisory from 12 PM to 10 PM. We’re expected to experience heat index values over 100°F (37.8°C). Heat safety tips:
• Drink water often.
• Try to limit beverages high in sugar, sodium, caffeine and alcohol.
• Take regular breaks in a cool place or in the shade.
• Wear light, breathable clothing.
• Never leave people or pets in a parked car.
• Seek medical help if someone is experiencing severe symptoms. This includes excess or lack of sweating, increased body temperature reaching 104° Fahrenheit (40° Celsius) or above, weakness, rapid pulse, confusion or any alteration of mental status, or loss of consciousness.
If you will be spending time outside, don’t forget about sun protection, too! Seek shade, wear sunscreen, and wear other gear that can help protect you, like a hat and sunglasses.
