STARBASE Kansas City To improve student comprehension in math, engineering, science and technology. Kansas STARBASE is the U.S.

Department of Defense’s award winning science, technology, engineering and math youth program. The program is located in five Kansas cities: Wichita, Topeka, Salina, Kansas City and Manhattan. It has worked with over 52,000 Kansas’ children either directly or indirectly by improving their interest in the areas of math, engineering, science or technology as well as instilling a sense of pride and personal accomplishment. It is those traits by which STARBASE will increase the number of students going into math, engineering, science and technology areas once they have completed their secondary education.

Today was our last day with Merriam Park Elementary. As you can see from the pictures, they were excited to do just about anything we shared. Today they completed various robotic missions (not shown), learned about flight careers by using flight simulation and studying Bernoulli’s principle, and learned that math can be used to make predictions about sinking or floating. You will be missed, Merriam Park!

Junction Elementary completed their fourth day with us. Students completed various robotic challenges using the Spike Prime robots. They also completed CAD training by learning how to attach parts by building a Mars colony. Not shown, they explored energy careers by discovering energy transfers and working through various circuitry solutions. We enjoy their enthusiasm for learning about possible future STEAM careers.

STARBASE KC bid farewell to our young scientists from Starside Elementary. We had a fantastic time learning and exploring with them over these last 5 weeks. On their final day students built and launched rockets, toured the Field Maintenance Shop and met the military mechanics who work there, and explored the exciting science behind endothermic and exothermic reactions. Thank you, Starside, for spending time with our staff! ❤️🚀

M.E.Pearson students had a fun filled couple of days exploring STEM! They designed their own Mars Base camp using CAD, solved electricity challenges with Little Bits, built and launched solid fuel rockets, and toured the FMS7 vehicles. They also learned how STEM is used in military careers and got to see some exciting technology up close.
