We aren’t the only ones answering the call.

A huge shoutout to our friends at Preston Emergency Services and Lanesboro Ambulance for the work they do every day serving our communities.

Behind every number is a neighbor who needed help — and a crew of dedicated people who dropped what they were doing and answered.

We’re fortunate to work side by side with some incredible EMS professionals and volunteers. Whether it’s a medical emergency, a vehicle accident, a fire scene, or one of the countless other calls that bring us together, we know we have good people beside us.

Keeping our communities safe takes all of us.

Thank you, Preston Emergency Services and Lanesboro Ambulance, for your service, your training, and your commitment to the people we all call neighbors.

Neighbors Serving Neighbors.

***September Recap***

September was another busy month for us with 61 calls for service. Year to date we have had around 420 calls for service which is 85 more calls than last year at this time. We had in service training as well at our monthly meeting which covered medications and the use of the new protocol APP. We are always training to make sure our skills are sharp when the community needs us most.

Thank you to all our volunteers for everything they do to make this Ambulance Service đźš‘ run smoothly day to day.

Over the past several weeks, we’ve shared more about the people, service, sacrifice, history, and support behind Lanesboro Fire.

There’s a reason for that.

A volunteer fire department can be easy to take for granted — until the day you need one.

This department has been shaped by generations of volunteers who gave their time, their effort, and a big part of their lives to serve this community.

That matters.

The future of a volunteer department depends on strong people, strong support, and strong stewardship.

We believe this community deserves a fire department that is respected, protected, and positioned to remain strong for generations to come.

That is not about politics.

That is about service.
That is about responsibility.
And that is about Lanesboro.

This department did not become what it is by accident.

It was built by generations of men and women who gave their time, answered the call, raised money, trained hard, and made sacrifices so the next generation would inherit something strong.

That kind of legacy deserves respect.

Everything connected to this department — its people, its history, its resources, its facilities, and its future — should be handled with care, transparency, and an understanding of what it took to build it.

We are proud of the past.

We are grateful for those who came before us.

And we believe in protecting what they built so this department can continue serving this community well into the future.

A fire hall is more than a place to park trucks.

It’s where firefighters train.
Where equipment is maintained.
Where readiness is built.
Where generations of history live.
And where crews prepare to answer the next call.

A fire station is part of the backbone of a volunteer department.

Yes, it is part of the community. It always has been.

But first and foremost, it has to serve the mission of the fire department and support the readiness of the people who protect this town.

Because when the tones drop, readiness matters.

And that readiness doesn’t happen by accident.

For generations, Lanesboro firefighters and supporters have worked hard to raise money — not only to strengthen the fire department, but to give back to the community we serve.

Those dollars represent chicken dinners, dances, community events, fundraisers, donations, and countless volunteer hours.

And they don’t just stay inside the fire hall.

Over the years, firefighter-raised funds have helped support:

* fire equipment, training, and department needs
* individuals and families facing personal hardship
* school activities and sports teams
* shop equipment and classroom supplies
* arts programs
* student-athletes
* scholarships for local students
* and other needs throughout our community

That’s the part of the story people may not always see.

When this community supports its firefighters, those firefighters have worked hard to turn around and support this community right back.

What has been built here has been built through service, sacrifice, generosity, and careful stewardship.

When most people think of Lanesboro Fire, they think of the city itself.

But our responsibility goes far beyond one street or one building.

We serve homes, farms, businesses, roadways, often times the visitors that come and support our town and neighboring areas. We respond when people are scared, hurting, stranded, or in danger. We train for structure fires, vehicle crashes, rural calls, mutual aid, and the unexpected.

That’s the reality of volunteer fire service.

It’s not limited to one address.
It’s not limited to business hours.
And it’s never just about the firefighters.

It’s about protecting the people and places that make up our community.

The Lanesboro Fire Department mourns the passing of retired firefighter Dave Campbell.

Dave gave 31 years of his time in service to this department and to the community he called home. We are grateful for the years he stood alongside his fellow firefighters and for the part he played in the history of our department.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Dave’s family and loved ones.

Rest easy, Dave. We’ll take it from here

⚠️ FLOOD UPDATE — LANESBORO AREA

The South Branch Root River at Lanesboro is continuing to rise following the heavy rainfall overnight.

As of 9:30 AM Saturday, the river was at 10.2 feet. Flood stage is 12 feet, and the National Weather Service is currently forecasting the river to crest near 15.2 feet this evening.

At approximately 14 feet, flooding may begin to threaten The Flat area, and the ballfield may begin experiencing flooding.

Residents should remain alert throughout the day, especially those living or working near the river and in low-lying areas.

Please remember:

* Do not drive through flooded roadways or around barricades.
* Use caution near the river and riverbanks.
* Keep children and pets away from fast-moving water.
* Conditions can change quickly, so continue monitoring official weather information and local updates.

Our department will continue to monitor conditions and share important information as it becomes available.

Please look out for your neighbors and use good judgment today.

The National Weather Service has also documented significant flooding from last night’s storms across portions of Fillmore County, including the Lanesboro area, so this is worth taking seriously even if conditions appear calm in your immediate area.

A lot of people have heard the words Firemen’s Relief Association, but not everyone knows what that means.

The Relief Association exists to support the long-term strength of the fire department and the volunteer firefighters who give years of service to this community.

It is part of the legacy of volunteer fire service — built over time through fundraising, stewardship, and generations of firefighters who wanted to leave the department better than they found it.

It didn’t appear overnight.

It was built through hard work, service, and a deep commitment to this community.

That history matters.
And so does protecting it.

When the pager goes off, nobody asks whether it’s convenient.

Volunteer firefighters leave work, family dinners, ballgames, holidays, and sleep because someone in our community needs help.

What many people don’t see is everything that happens beyond the call itself.

Training. Equipment checks. Meetings. Maintenance. Fundraising. Community events. Time away from family. Time given to something bigger than yourself.

That’s what it takes to keep a volunteer fire department ready.

Around here, the title “firefighter” has never just meant wearing the gear. It means commitment. It means sacrifice. It means showing up.
