Yesterday UNLPD held a retirement party for Chief Hassan Ramzah. Chief Ramzah has honorably served our community since August of 2016, first as the Assistant Chief and then the Chief of Police. Chief Ramzah was unwavering in his commitment to excellence. First, when hiring a quality workforce that reflects the community we serve. Second in embracing community policing. Establishing relationships with faculty staff and students and working collaboratively in solving issues our community is facing. Lastly, in ensuring that all of our efforts are always focused on making our community safer. Thank you Chief Ramzah for your service, leadership and vision the past 10 years. Your impact will continue on in those you mentored and led.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) is the largest public awareness vehicle and grass-roots fundraiser for Special Olympics. In Nebraska the LETR started in 1985 when a group of law enforcement officers decided to run the Special Olympics torch across the state to Summer Games. Today the LETR is a worldwide movement of law enforcement officers raising money and awareness for their local Special Olympics programs and athletes.
Today members of UNLPD participated in the run, which begins on UNL campus and ends at the Hall of Justice. We thank them for their support of such a worthy cause.

This week we pause to honor the officers who made the ultimate sacrifice serving their communities, states and country. This includes the 111 police officers killed in the line of duty in 2025.
Their service and commitment to protecting others will never be forgotten.
We also want to thank our current officers, dispatchers, other area first responders, and their families for the sacrifices they continue to make every day to keep our communities safe. Your dedication has not gone unnoticed, or unappreciated.
