👀Mystras: The Swan Song of Byzantium
In the shadow of the falling byzantine Empire, local centers continued to resist and flourish, drawing upon all their remaining intellectual strengths to produce outstanding art and culture.
The outcomes of this effort showcased in the beautiful frescoes and texts stand both as a legacy of the glorious millennial byzantine Empire and as witnesses to the vitality of the ongoing spiritual forces that would later shape the modern Greek nation.

Following a years-long restoration and preservation effort, now new parts of the site are open to the public, within the legendary medieval castle town of Mystras, the Palace of the Despots has fully opened its gates and the whole site has accessibility upgrades.

👉“This initiative reintegrates a crowning jewel of Byzantine heritage into the modern cultural and tourism map of Greece and Europe” emphasized the Greek Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni.

👉Visit the newly restored Palace of the Despotes, the new permanent exhibition, multimedia exhibits and digital reconstructions of daily byzantine life and enjoy accessibility upgrades to the site.
Temporary exhibitions for this year’s visitors
📍“In the Sarays of the Princess” A collection that explores the enduring allure of Mystras, tracing how the castle town captured the imagination of European writers, artists, and intellectuals from the 15th century through to the early 20th century.
📍“Reflections of Glorious Attire” Staged within the majestic Throne Room, a unique exhibition of handcrafted representations of clothing as artistry and dynamic language of authority and social status.
