Communities in Schools - South Plains Bridging the gap between home and school for students to succeed both in school and beyond since 1999 🌟 The five Communities in Schools basics:
1.

A one-on-one relationship with a caring adult;
2. A safe place to learn and grow;
3. A healthy start and a healthy future;
4. A marketable skill to use upon graduation; and
5. A chance to give back to peers and community. Communities in Schools - South Plains uses evidence-based programs and services that address the academic, non-academic, cognitive, and social and emotional factors that directly affect students' ability to persist and be successful not only in school, but throughout their lives. Founded in Lubbock in 1999 and chartered by the national Communities in Schools office in 2000, Communities in Schools - South Plains has increased the number of children served from approximately 100 on three campuses in 1999-2000 to over 2,100 on 54 campuses during the 2015-2016 school year.

Donuts With Grown Ups brought parents and students together for some quality time at Williams Elementary! 🍩

Spending time together at school gives parents a chance to be part of their student’s day and helps build a connection with the people and place where they learn. A donut and a little time together can give students something special to carry into the rest of their school day! 💗

You may never know every student impacted by your partnership, but your support can help create opportunities they'll carry with them long after they leave the classroom.

Confidence. Connection. Belonging. The chance to discover what's possible. → That's the kind of impact a local business can help make when it chooses to invest in a school. 💛

A little encouragement can make a big difference! 🙌🚒

Students at Shallowater Intermediate were welcomed to school with high-fives, smiles, and plenty of encouragement during their High Five for Heroes event! Local first responders joined us to help students start their day feeling celebrated while building positive connections between our students and the community members who serve them.

Thank you to the first responders who showed up to make the morning extra special!

Our Site Coordinators are in schools every day helping students stay connected and supported. When absences become a concern, they work with students and families to understand what’s getting in the way and connect them with the support they need to attend school more consistently.

Thanks to the South Plains Food Bank Mobile Pantry, 110 Atkins Middle School families received food last week! 🍎

Access to food is an essential part of supporting students and their families. It can ease the pressure on household budgets and help students come to school nourished and ready to learn. We’re grateful to the South Plains Food Bank for helping meet that need for the families we serve!

Being present means showing up for the whole student: mind, body, and heart.

A 2025 national survey found that about 1 in 3 high school students experienced persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness. That’s a reminder that some of what students carry into school isn’t visible.

On World Mental Health Day, we’re recognizing the importance of having someone at school students can turn to. CIS Site Coordinators build trust with students and connect them with support, including small groups, counseling referrals and caring adults on campus. 💙
