🚨 SAFETY ADVISORY: Remnants of Hurricane Isaias Moving Into East Tennessee 🚨

As tropical moisture and weather from the remnants of Hurricane Isaias enter East Tennessee, MCEMS is preparing for heavy rainfall, localized flash flooding, and strong wind gusts across the area.

We want to make sure our community stays safe on the roads and at home. Please review these essential precautions:

🚗 Driving & Road Safety:

Turn Around, Don't Drown:
-Never drive through flooded roadways or around barricades. It only takes a few inches of moving water to sweep a vehicle off the road.

Watch for Falling Debris:
-Saturated soil combined with high wind gusts can bring down trees and power lines. Treat any downed power line as live and dangerous. Report all downed lines to emergency services and/or your utility provider.

Hydroplaning Risk:
- Slow down, give extra space between vehicles, and turn off cruise control in heavy rain.

🏠 Home & Neighborhood Prep:

Secure Loose Items:
- Bring in or anchor outdoor furniture, trash cans, and garden items before winds pick up.

Charge Essential Devices:
-Ensure phones, portable chargers, and medical devices are fully charged in case of power outages.

Clear Drainage Pathways:
-Check gutters, downspouts, and nearby storm drains for leaves or debris to prevent local street flooding.

🚨 Emergency Medical & Response Reminders:

Emergency Kit:
-Double-check that your home first-aid kit and critical prescription medications are easily accessible.

When to Call 911:
-Reserve 911 calls for life-threatening medical emergencies, fires, and active hazards (such as downed lines across a roadway) to keep lines clear for critical responses.

Stay Updated:
-Keep a weather radio handy or turn on emergency alerts on your smartphone for localized warnings from the National Weather Service.

As always, our crews are on standby and ready to respond. Please stay safe, stay weather-aware, and look out for your neighbors! ❤️

Just reminding everyone that it is time to finalize preparations for the upcoming weather, if you haven't already. MCEMS will be on-duty and ready to respond, should you require any assistance. Stay safe, Monroe County!

We love to see posts like this! We want to thank Christianburg Volunteer Fire Department for the opportunity to come out and participate in this joint agency training. Joint trainings such as these, ensure that all public services (law enforcement, fire, and EMS) are ready to work together smoothly, when seconds matter!

🚑🚒 STRONGER TOGETHER — JOINT AGENCY TRAINING! 🚒🚑

Christianburg Fire Department would like to give a huge THANK YOU to Monroe County EMS, EMS Supervisor Tim McArthur — better known as “Timmy Mac” — and his partner Daniel Halsted for taking the time yesterday to work with our members during a joint agency training session on the ambulance.

This training gave our firefighters and first responders the opportunity to become familiar with how the ambulance is set up, where important equipment is located, and how we can better assist EMS crews when caring for patients during an emergency.

That knowledge can make a big difference when seconds matter. Being able to quickly locate equipment, understand the ambulance layout, and work smoothly alongside EMS helps us provide better and faster care to the citizens we serve.

Monroe County Ambulance Service went above and beyond for our department, and we truly appreciate their willingness to share their knowledge, answer questions, and help strengthen the working relationship between our agencies.

We are extremely thankful to have dedicated professionals like Timmy Mac and the entire Monroe County EMS team working beside us.

Different uniforms. Different agencies. One mission — serving and protecting our community.

Monroe County EMS Paramedic Transported to Hospital Following Sweetwater Parking Lot Incident; Safety Reminder Issued for Drivers

SWEETWATER, Tenn. — A Monroe County EMS paramedic was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center after being struck by a vehicle backing up in a parking lot off New Highway 68, in Sweetwater, early Tuesday morning, September 29th, at approximately 6:30 AM.

The paramedic was transported by Monroe County EMS personnel to UT Medical Center, for further evaluation and treatment of their injuries. Following treatment at UT Medical Center, the paramedic was discharged home the same day and is currently resting and recovering.

Emergency medical services (EMS) personnel frequently work in high-traffic and dynamic environments—including busy parking areas, roadways, and active incident scenes. Monroe County EMS urges drivers to maintain heightened awareness, as first responders must often focus their full attention on delivering urgent care or managing emergency scenes.

To safeguard first responders and ensure safe operations, driver vigilance is essential:

Exercise Caution in Parking Lots and Active Scenes:
-Always thoroughly check mirrors, cameras, and blind spots before backing up, and proceed with extra care around emergency vehicles and personnel.

Yield to Emergency Responders:
-Safely yield the right-of-way when emergency vehicles approach with active lights or sirens.

Observe Move Over Laws:
-Slow down and move over when passing stationary emergency vehicles parked along roads or within parking areas.

Minimize Distractions:
-Put away mobile devices and keep full attention on surroundings to remain aware of pedestrians, first responders, and changing traffic conditions.

Monroe County EMS extends its sincere appreciation to Sweetwater Fire and Police Departments, Monroe County E-911, as well as the medical team at UT Medical Center for their prompt care, as well as the community for its continued thoughts and support as our crew member recovers.

WORKHORSE WEDNESDAY: McGRATH™ MAC Video Laryngoscope 🩺⚡

Securing an advanced airway in a critically ill or injured patient is one of the most vital high-risk skills our paramedics perform in the field. To ensure maximum precision and rapid success, all MCEMS ambulances carry the McGRATH™ MAC video laryngoscope.

How It Supports Life-Saving Care:

First-Attempt Success:
-Combining a high-resolution color screen with traditional technique gives clinicians a direct, real-time view of the vocal cords, significantly improving first-pass intubation success rates during critical emergencies.

Conquering Difficult Airways:
-Whether facing restricted neck mobility, trauma, or difficult patient positioning, specialized video optics allow our paramedics to navigate complex patient anatomy quickly and safely.

Compact & Field-Ready:
-Cable-free, durable, and lightweight, it is built specifically for fast-paced EMS environments so critical airway management is never delayed.

🛠️ Equipping our clinicians with modern video airway technology ensures top-tier clinical outcomes for our patients when every second counts!

TEACHING TUESDAY: More Than "Ambulance Drivers" 🩺🚑

You’ve likely heard the phrase "ambulance driver" before, but did you know that driving the ambulance is actually only a small fraction of what our clinicians do?

The clinicians inside our ambulances are highly trained medical professionals who bring an emergency room's (and in some cases, an ICU's) worth of diagnostic capability and immediate care right to the patient's doorstep.

What Happens in the Back of the Ambulance?

📊 Advanced Diagnostics:
-Interpreting 12-lead ECGs to detect cardiac emergencies in real-time, as well as continuously monitoring blood pressure, heart rate, blood oxygen (SpO2), end-tidal CO2, and blood glucose levels.

💉 Pharmacology & Invasive Care:
-Administering a variety of protocol-driven emergency medications, starting intravenous (IV) and/or intraosseous (IO) lines, performing advanced airway interventions, etc.

🩸 Critical Care & Stabilization:
-Initiating blood transfusions, managing life threatening bleeding, delivering continuous CPR/defibrillation, as well as managing other, life threatening emergencies.

While operating an emergency vehicle safely through traffic does require skill and focus, the real work happens in the back—evaluating, stabilizing, and treating patients when every second counts.
