Parish President Mike Cooper and the St. Tammany Commission on Cultural Affairs have announced ten talented honorees for the President's Arts Awards, celebrating its twentieth year honoring the artists and art patrons of St. Tammany Parish.

"The President's Arts Awards is a treasured celebration of the artists and patrons who brighten our communities with their culinary, literary, visual and performative skills," said President Cooper. "I am incredibly thankful to the St. Tammany Commission on Cultural Affairs for their continued commitment to fostering and promoting arts programs that brighten the parish we call home."

"Every year, The President's Arts Awards allows us to showcase a wide range of local talent, from beloved culinary institutions to masters of writing, music, dance and so much more," said Commission of Cultural Affairs Chair Kelly Elliott. "Now in its twentieth year, the President's Arts Awards has become a cherished tradition, giving artists and art patrons the proper recognition they deserve."

The St. Tammany President’s Arts Awards is held annually to recognize outstanding artists in St. Tammany Parish. The recipients are selected by the Parish President and the Commission on Cultural Affairs and is supported in part by a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation & Tourism, in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

🕛 Meet the Playwright: DAVID ARMAND

Every world premiere begins with a story... and this one begins with a local voice.

David Armand holds a B.A. and M.A. from Southeastern Louisiana University and an M.F.A. from the University of Arkansas. He has taught creative writing at Southeastern for nearly twenty years and is the award-winning author of twelve books, including being honored with the 2022 Louisiana Writer Award.

David wrote LATE SHIFT from his own experiences working as a telemarketer and the people he met there who gave him hope when he needed it most. Their stories, friendship, and encouragement became the inspiration for this heartfelt new play.

More than twenty years later, David discovered that the man who had hired him at that telemarketing job is now the Executive Director of 30 by Ninety Theatre. Sometimes life has a remarkable way of coming full circle.

On David’s final day as a telemarketer, his supervisor, Ms. Sandra, told him she expected to see his name in lights someday. She saw something in a young 19-year-old writer that he couldn’t yet see in himself.

Now, that prediction comes true as 30 by Ninety Theatre proudly presents the WORLD PREMIERE of LATE SHIFT.
