Lincoln Park Zoo Boo Event to be Held October 17th, 2026

Manitowoc’s Lincoln Park Zoo invites families to have a howling good time at its annual Halloween Zoo Boo event on Saturday, October 17th from 1 to 4 p.m.
The event will feature fun activities for all ages, including a costume contest, games, animal enrichment demonstrations (so the animals can get in on the fun too), and a safe trick-or-treating experience throughout the main loop of the zoo courtesy of some local organizations. Concessions will be available for sale by HP Enterprises during the event.
A $1 admission fee per person will be collected at the entrance to the zoo. Games will be located behind the Education Center, with tickets available for 50 cents each. Participants will be able to exchange tokens earned from the games for prizes.
A costume contest will take place near the playground throughout the event. Zoo staff will photograph participants, and photos will be posted on the Manitowoc Lincoln Park Zoo’s page following the event. For a $2 entry fee, participants can compete for the grand prize, which will be awarded to the costume photo receiving the most likes and comments. Voting will remain open through November 1st.
During fall, the Lincoln Park Zoo is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Winter hours begin November 1st.

2026 LEAF PICKUP

The City of Manitowoc 2026 leaf pickup Parking Ban is scheduled to begin on October 1st, 2026. On October 1st the City Street Sweepers will be out for fall pickup. During this time, the City Street Sweepers will be sweeping the streets between 6:00 AM and 3PM to pick up any leaves that have fallen into the street. Additional city crews will be added October 19th in each district. We expect the bulk of leaf pickup to be October 19th through November 20th weather permitting. The goal is to complete pickup in each section each week. Depending on weather, volume of leaves and equipment, there may be times a section is not completed. Please be patient, leaves will be picked up the following week.
Safety for residents and crews is important. Never park your vehicle over a leaf pile. If you see crews picking up leaves, please give them room. Large equipment backs up frequently, and we want everyone to be safe.

RESIDENTIAL PARKING BAN - The Residential Parking Ban will be from 6 AM to 3 PM on the day of your pickup, which is the same day as your Street Sweeping Parking Ban. This will facilitate picking up the leaves much faster. Vehicles parked on the street between 6 AM and 3 PM will be ticketed. Informational flyers will be placed on vehicles September 21st – September 30th, 2026. The parking ban will be in effect October 1st, 2026 through November 20th, 2026.
NO BRUSH OR GARDEN WASTE WILL BE PICKED UP. Residents may take brush and garden waste to the Manitowoc County compost sites or contact a private hauler. For information about the compost sites call (920) 683-4333.

STREETS WITH A PARKING LANE
If your street has a parking lane, leaves should be placed in the parking lane of the street in front of your residence the evening before your street sweeping day. No leaves will be removed from the terrace (grassy area between the sidewalk and the curb). Leaves will be picked up on your street sweeping day from the parking lane only. This is being done to pick up the leaves faster, and in an effort to leave the terrace looking better after pick up. Please make sure that you do not place leaf piles near or over catch basins.

STREETS WITHOUT A PARKING LANE
If there is no parking lane on your street leaves should continue to be placed on the terrace. Please place loose leaves in an open area of the terrace away from trees, light poles, mailboxes or any other obstacles to assist in speedy collection and to minimize damage to equipment.

WINTERIZING OF CITY OF MANITOWOC PARK RESTROOMS

Although the weather can still be beautiful this time of year, the City of Manitowoc Parks Division will begin the process of winterizing drinking fountains, as well as closing and winterizing many of the park restrooms, this week. Early closures are necessary in order to properly winterize multiple facilities before colder temperatures arrive.
Due to recreational activities in the parks, six public restroom areas will remain open all winter:
ď‚· Halvorsen Park;
ď‚· Lighthouse Park;
ď‚· Lincoln Park Cabin #1 public restrooms;
ď‚· Lincoln Park Zoo;
ď‚· Manitou Park; and
ď‚· Silver Creek Fieldhouse public restrooms.
In addition, the Parks Division would like to keep the following restrooms open as long as weather permits:
ď‚· Lincoln Park Concession Stand; and
ď‚· Rheaume Park.

Conditions such as accumulating snow and/or ice will cause the restrooms to be closed for the season.
The Parks Division expects the remainder of all restrooms to be closed on or before the end of the day on Friday, October 30th, except for the Citizen Park Concession Stand restrooms (by ball diamond #2), which will close approximately November 13th due to scheduled softball games.
Until the water is turned back on in spring, a portable toilet will be available for use at upper Henry Schuette Park, as there is no furnace in the restroom building.
