CORE Charter School CORE is a public independent-study, personalized learning charter school.

We are a personalized learning charter school designed to help each student (TK through 12) achieve the best education possible. We have fully credentialed teachers, who guide each student and parent in the development of a personal curricula that meets their needs, learning styles, and interests. We have classes at the resource center which they can attend part time, to enrich the home school experience, along with traditional books, computer/online courses, field trips, classes in the community (such as guitar, piano, karate, etc).

Today, we are celebrating Christina Gaines, a valued member of our CORE community! Christina is dedicated to helping her children reach their full potential and is always seeking opportunities that encourage growth, exploration, and personal development. Her commitment to providing a well-rounded educational experience helps foster confidence, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning.

As a parent, Christina goes above and beyond to support her children's educational journey, encouraging them to pursue new experiences and discover their unique strengths. Her dedication, encouragement, and involvement play an important role in their success, and we are grateful to have Christina and her family as part of the CORE family!

It’s been a busy couple of weeks at CORE, but we’re taking a moment to look back at our second annual Empowered to Educate Parent Conference!

From fun activities, food, prizes, and a special student assembly to a full day of parent breakout sessions, guest speaker Cathy Willoughby, and resource tables, there was something for everyone! Parents left with tools, connections, and resources to help them feel more confident and supported in their homeschooling journey, while our students had a blast!

Thank you to everyone who helped make this special day such a success. We love seeing our CORE community come together to learn, connect, and grow!

Putting drone skills to work for our community! CORE Charter School Commercial Drone Program staff members Jeff Patsey and Jeremy Saltman, along with former students Brendan Kolb and Joshua Feceu, were honored by the City of Marysville for their valuable contributions to city planning and development.
Using aerial mapping and photogrammetry, the team created interactive 3D models of multiple opportunity sites throughout Marysville. These digital models allow users to explore sites from different angles, zoom in and out, and take measurements—providing a valuable resource for the city.

Our CTE Career Exploration students got to be Chico State Wildcats for a day! Mrs. Bains and Mrs. Apsley took the group to campus, where students met a librarian, explored the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences, and visited the Child Development Lab to talk with staff and faculty. Graduate student Jessica Silveira gave us a fun tour of campus, and, of course, the students enjoyed plenty of delicious food in the dining hall!

Thank you, Chico State, for another wonderful visit. We always have such a great time!

Join us for our Fall Book Fair, Monday, September 28 – Friday, October 2, 2026, at CORE Charter School (321 16th Street, Marysville, CA 95901). Families and community members are invited to visit the library Monday–Thursday from 8:00 AM–3:30 PM and Friday from 8:00 AM–2:00 PM to shop a wonderful selection of books for all ages. Every purchase supports our school library and helps spark a love of reading in our students.

We’re proud to share this Action News Now story highlighting Girls in Aviation Day at the Chico Air Museum!

The event was organized through Women in Aviation and led by CORE teacher Ms. Christine Gibbs, founding president of the Women in Aviation Northern California Chapter. CORE students, graduates, parents, and teachers also helped make the event possible, with support from the Northern California Aerospace Initiative (NCAI).

Girls from Yuba, Sutter, and Butte Counties spent the day exploring STEM, aviation careers, and connecting with aviation professionals.

We’re proud of the CORE community for helping create this hands-on opportunity for young women to explore aviation, STEM, and future careers.

Today, we are excited to celebrate Mr. Steve Hitchko, an incredible addition to our CORE community! As our High School Director, Steve Hitchko brings energy, authenticity, and a genuine ability to connect with our high school students. He makes a point of being out there with students, getting to know them, sharing some laughs, and bringing his own personality to campus—fun shirts and socks included!

With experience in many different educational settings, Steve understands that every student is unique. His flexible, family-first mindset fits beautifully with CORE’s personalized approach to education.. Our students had a blast at yesterday’s assembly! The exciting laser light show brought history and music to life as we celebrated our nation’s 250th anniversary. With engaging music, colorful lasers, and plenty of smiles, it was a fun and memorable experience for our CORE students!
