What's Happening at Main & Bridge?
If you've driven through downtown lately, you've probably noticed work underway at the corner of Main and Bridge Streets.
These improvements are transforming the successful safety features tested last fall into permanent upgrades that will make downtown safer, more accessible, and more welcoming for everyone.
✅ Shorter pedestrian crossing distances
✅ New accessible curb ramps and warning surfaces
✅ Pull-through drop-off area for improved accessibility
✅ Decorative planters and a new street mural by a local artist
✅ Improved visibility for drivers and pedestrians
The project is funded entirely through the AARP Community Challenge Grant, with support from AARP Kentucky, AARP Livable Communities, and Toyota Motor North America. No local tax dollars are being used for construction.
With approximately 7,000 vehicles traveling through this intersection every day, these changes will help make downtown Morehead safer for residents, visitors, families, older adults, and anyone enjoying Battson-Oates Commons, Freedom Park, local businesses, and the Rowan County Veterans Museum.
Thank you for your patience while work is underway. Downtown Morehead is open for business!
Traffic Reminder: Main and Bridge is now a 3-way full stop intersection. All vehicles must come to a complete stop and watch for pedestrians
