I am really excited about the free Native American film festival this Sunday at Towne Centre. Tickets are still available. Registration is appreciated so we know how many folks to expect.

I met Joshua Shumak with the Wassamasaw Tribe about a year ago and was very interested to hear more about his heritage. There is so much to be learned about the civilizations that pre-date the United States and still proudly exist to this day.

Please join me in attending to discover more about our Native American friends and neighbors.

The best time of the day at the best time of the year.

“It’s very personal. I have a daughter in eighth grade at Moultrie Middle School, and when I opened that application that showed the signage, I was just floored. It seemed like it’s something that belongs in Las Vegas or Myrtle Beach or Rivers Avenue with bright lights advertising products that are clearly unsafe for young people,” Daniel Brownstein, a Mount Pleasant town council member, said.

Mount Pleasant Town Council will hold a special meeting on Monday afternoon to consider zoning changes preventing v**e stores from setting up shop near schools. The meeting is tentatively scheduled for 1:15 p.m. at Town Hall. I would encourage concerned citizens to attend if possible.

How close should a v**e and kratom store be to a school or even a church?

One of my favorite parts of being on Town Council is to celebrate the positive things kids and young adults are doing in our community. We don’t hear about them nearly enough.

Congratulations to Will Tart, a freshman at Lucy Beckham for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. Will joins his father, uncle and cousins in this elite group of scouts.

I spent sunrise with the East Cooper Kiwanis Club talking about recent town happenings and answering their questions. If you’d like to give back to your community, consider joining the East Cooper Kiwanis Club, which helps local children’s charities and gives out awards to great kids in our schools. They are celebrating 50 years of service! More info here: https://k08610.site.kiwanis.org

Also, I’d love to join you with your group or club. Message me if you’d like me to come speak or listen.

Heads up. Spilled pumpkins delaying traffic in Mount Pleasant.

TRAVEL ALERT/Mt. Pleasant:
According to Mount Pleasant PD, the right two lanes of Coleman Blvd coming off the Ravenel Bridge blocked because an 18-wheeler struck a low-hanging limb and spilled its load of pumpkins. Traffic is moving slow.

“It gives us time to study the issue and to make sure that we’re protecting our residents and protecting our natural resources,” Daniel Brownstein, a member of Mount Pleasant Town Council, said.

I am very glad this issue that I started has crossed the finish line, but the real work of crafting our zoning regulations begins.

It’s time for Charleston County and our neighboring cities and towns to join us. Pass data center moratoriums to make sure zoning codes provide the right protections for our citizens, environment and electrical rates.

Mount Pleasant is officially pausing any possible data center development.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

This evening, Mount Pleasant Town Council has approved a settlement agreement that provides for the purchase of approximately 129 acres of the Republic Tract for a future passive public park, preserving over two miles of waterfront along the Wando River.

The agreement also limits development on the remaining property to no more than 95 single-family homes, preserving the majority of the tract for public use and enjoyment.
