This October, we paused to honor the strength, courage, and compassion of our community. 🎀
For Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I was proud to present a proclamation to 305 Pink Pack and its founder, Dr. Rosemary Carrera. A cancer diagnosis affects the entire family, and 305 Pink Pack eases that burden by providing practical support to individuals going through treatment throughout Miami-Dade County. Dr. Carrera, thank you for reminding those facing cancer that they are not alone.
I also had the honor of recognizing Jonise Louis, a South Florida native, mother, and advocate living with Stage IV metastatic breast cancer. Diagnosed in 2020 while pregnant, Jonise has turned her journey into a mission to raise awareness and push for more research funding through Light Up MBC. Metastatic breast cancer is currently incurable, which makes research, access to treatment, and community support so important. In her honor, October 13, 2026 was recognized as Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day in the City of North Miami.
