As volunteers, we don’t always get to see what happens after our work is done. This time, we do. 💙
A family that has experienced homelessness for six months will soon move into the TORCH house () that BWXT () volunteers spruced up during United Way’s Day of Caring.
That connection began with having someone in place to bring people and projects together. AmeriCorps Community Cares (), a program funded by Volunteer Tennessee (), funds the Volunteer Coordinator position held by Lisa Moeller at United Way of Anderson County. In that role, Lisa organized Day of Caring, bringing together dozens of volunteers to meet local needs—including the BWXT team’s work at TORCH.
The family is supported by our East Tennessee Collaborative (ETC) project, which helps families move from ALICE toward self-sufficiency through personalized coaching, flexible financial assistance, and employer partnerships.
This is volunteering coming full circle: a funded coordinator position makes it possible to organize service, volunteers put their time and energy into a home, and a family preparing for a new chapter benefits from that care.
We’re thankful for AmeriCorps Community Cares and Volunteer Tennessee for making Lisa’s role possible, for Lisa’s coordination, and for BWXT, and TORCH for the work that connects an act of service to a family’s next step forward.
