This June, students in our Always Reading program are taking on a challenge: read 30 books in 30 days ☀️📚

This is because reading routines matter...especially over summer break. When reading continues through the summer, children return to school more confident, prepared, and ready to keep learning.

Through our program, families keep access to books and digital reading tools all summer long, helping children continue the progress they worked hard to build during the school year.

DID YOU KNOW? Nearly 60% of families experiencing poverty have no children’s books in the home. When school ends, that lack of book access can lead to the “summer slide." This is a loss of the reading skills, routine, and confidence children worked hard to build during the school year.

We first introduced Always Reading to pre-K and TK students during the 2021–22 school year, and it’s been inspiring to see the program continue to grow each year. These soon-to-be kindergarteners and their families will have the opportunity to continue their reading journey with us next year at Pāhoa.

We’re excited to spend another year fostering a love of reading and helping set these young learners up for success as they begin their educational journey.

Books and digital tools matter, but relationships are what help reading routines stick. Our Book Coaches work alongside families throughout the school year, helping turn everyday reading into a lasting habit. They are one of the most important investments we make in our program because we know families thrive when they feel supported.
