GCPS Parents and Families:

Following additional coordination with the Giles County Sheriff's Office, we have determined that there is no longer a need for our schools to remain in a modified lockdown.

As of 1:45 p.m., all Giles County Public Schools have returned to normal operating procedures.

Thank you for your trust, patience, and understanding as we managed this situation. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly.

Additionally, as previously shared, we implemented an improved automated calling system at the beginning of this school year to help ensure timely communication with our families. If you are the parent or guardian of a GCPS student and did not receive today's automated phone notifications, please complete our Technical Assistance Request Form linked below. A member of our technology team will follow up with you as soon as possible to help resolve the issue.

GCPS Parents and Families:

We have been made aware of a potential school safety situation in our community. At this time, our schools are not directly involved, and we have no information indicating a direct or immediate threat to our students or school campuses.

We are working closely with the Giles County Sheriff's Office to monitor the situation and obtain additional information.

Out of an abundance of caution, all Giles County Public Schools have been placed in a modified lockdown. Classes and normal routines inside our schools will continue, but all students and personnel will remain inside the buildings until further notice.

The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as additional information becomes available.

At this time, please DO NOT attempt to visit the campus or check-out your child.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Giles County Public Schools invites community members to join us TODAY, October 28, for one of two virtual informational sessions about the upcoming 1% local sales tax referendum.

📅 Today, October 28
🕐 1:00 PM or 7:00 PM
💻 Location: Google Meet (Virtual)

On November 3, Giles County voters will have the opportunity to decide whether to approve an additional 1% local sales tax dedicated to school construction and renovation projects.

If approved, the additional revenue could help address important facility needs across our school division, including restroom renovations, playground improvements, flooring replacements, and other building upgrades. The revenue would also provide an additional funding source for school capital improvements, reducing reliance on local real estate taxes.

During these sessions, we'll provide a brief overview of the referendum, explain how the funding would work, discuss potential projects, and answer questions from community members.

We encourage everyone to take a few minutes to learn more about this important decision facing our community. Our goal is to ensure that voters have the information they need to make an informed decision on November 3.
