FATAL CRASH IN CASCO TWP

The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a fatal traffic accident that occurred at the intersection of Fred W. Moore Hwy and Mayer Rd in Casco Twp yesterday, October 29, at 4:00 pm. St. Clair County Central Dispatch received a 911 call reporting an accident involving a motor vehicle that had collided with a bicyclist.

Deputies arrived on scene and determined that a 2013 Cadillac SUV had been traveling eastbound on Fred W. Moore Hwy when it collided with a bicyclist that was also traveling eastbound with the regular flow of traffic.

The bicyclist, a 39-year-old man from East China Twp, was pronounced deceased on scene.

The driver of the Cadillac SUV, a 26-year-old man from St. Clair, was not injured. He remained on scene and was cooperative with investigators.

Fred W. Moore Hwy was closed in this area for several hours while investigators processed the scene. Deputies were assisted on scene by Richmond Lenox EMS and the Richmond Fire Department.

This incident is being investigated by the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Team. Neither alcohol or drugs appear to be a factor at this time.

UPDATE

Last Thursday, October 14, the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office released a video looking to identify two young males seemingly engaging in “ding d**g ditching.”

While this may seem like harmless fun, an incident the following evening (Friday) illustrated the potential harm that could come from engaging in this prank. While on patrol, deputies received a call for someone ringing a homeowner’s doorbell just before midnight. Prior to deputies’ arrival, the homeowner had retrieved their sh***un and discharged it. While we are thankful no one was injured, this situation could have had a drastically different outcome.

What may seem like a harmless prank can have serious, unintended consequences. Before engaging in this behavior, think twice. You never know how someone may react when a stranger shows up at their door in the middle of the night.
