🎃 Pumpkin Jack Day! Each class chose shapes to carve into their pumpkins, drew their pumpkins in their nature journals, and now the real science begins! We’ll observe our Pumpkin Jacks as they decompose over time. So much hands-on learning and a little fall fun!

After reading The Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid, we headed out on a forest adventure to find the story pieces! Once we gathered them all, our little explorers brought the story to life by retelling it in their own way. Fall fun in the forest! Trees provide endless opportunities for learning, exploring, and imaginative play. From discovering patterns, textures, shapes, and colors to counting, sorting, measuring, and comparing, there is so much learning happening all around us! Add in climbing, collecting, creating, and a little imagination, and the forest becomes the BEST classroom!

Wilderness Wednesday 5th grade buddies. We learned that red squirrels will gather acorns and hide them in one giant cache. Grey squirrels hide acorns in many small caches. Half of us became red squirrels and half became grey squirrels. We went off with our groups to hide our 'acorns' (popsicle sticks). Then we switched areas to hunt for the other squirrels acorns. In the end we found 15 of the grey squirrels acorns and 32 of the red squirrels acorns.

After reading STUCK! 📚, our little authors and illustrators got busy creating their very own class books! Each child added their own page and signed the title page. The forest comes alive with imagination! From giraffes, art, and safari hunts to brave firefighters and so much more, our little explorers turn the great outdoors into a world of endless possibilities! Along the way, they’re practicing risk-taking, assessing risks, learning through trial and error, building persistence, communicating ideas, collaborating with peers, and so much more! Big adventures, meaningful learning, and imaginations running wild!

Our little learners got a taste of fall on Friday! As part of our tree unit study, Ms. Amanda’s class made their very own applesauce!

From brainstorming and creating their own recipes to reading directions, peeling and cutting apples, and finally enjoying the tasty results, this experience was full of hands-on learning! We practiced early literacy, sequencing, fine motor skills, measuring, and following directions while exploring one of fall’s favorite treats!
