Eastern Kentucky University ranked first among the state’s public universities in Washington Monthly’s 2026 “Best Colleges for Your Tuition (and Tax) Dollars” rankings, placing No. 41 among colleges in the South.

The recognition comes as EKU expands scholarships for Kentucky freshmen and reduces graduate tuition in several fields tied to the state’s workforce, including education, business, criminal justice and public health.

Somewhere in Kentucky, the moving boxes keep piling up, and the locals have stopped acting surprised. One city has been collecting new neighbors faster than anywhere else in the state. You might be wondering what all the excitement is about.
Richmond, Kentucky grew from 35,317 people in the 2020 census to roughly 41,732 by 2026. That’s an increase of about 18 percent in just a few years. Plenty of towns would be happy with half that pace. Richmond is now recognized as one of the fastest-growing cities in the state (Heather McMillan, Decor Hint, October 17, 2026). That's a wrap for this year! We’d like to thank all the businesses, vendors, and people who came out for the festival. Last year, according to our Datafy analytics, we had over 10,000 people attend the festival. This year, that estimate is closer to 12,000 attendees! This effort takes a lot of work and coordination, and we are especially thankful for the City of Richmond Parks and Recreational department staff who plan this event every year and the City of Richmond employees for working the 2026 Millstone Festival!
