Did you know our chefs sort through truckloads of food EVERY DAY to gather food to feed our guests?
That’s what it takes to fill plates for breakfast, lunch, and dinner at UGM 365 days a year. 🍲
Thank YOU for making it possible to prepare nearly a million dollars worth of groceries every year so that our guests can find help and hope on our campus. 🙏🏻
Union Gospel Mission Sacramento
All of the items, food, and services are provided without charge. We are open for drop-off seven days a week, 8 AM—8 PM.
Since 1962, the Union Gospel Mission has provided food, clothing, shelter, and a life-changing Gospel message to Sacramento's homeless and struggling populations. Union Gospel Mission remains a shining light providing more than 8,000 monthly meals, clothing, hygiene items, shelter, a life-changing gospel message, and an in-house Christ-centered recovery program to the homeless and poor of Sacramen
Stage walls are in. Prayer room is up. Next week is a busy one in our chapel! Our contractors are working tirelessly to get this thing ready in time for the Safe Camping Ground across the street.
Pray that we don’t hit any construction road blocks, otherwise we might have to send the office staff in with some hammers, and nobody wants that! 👷🏻♀️🔨😁

“As a pastor, I made a trip to the Mission to see for myself how it worked. I soon became a believer in the ministry of the Union Gospel Mission.
My excitement began when I first saw their campus—the beauty, cleanness, and friendliness of the staff. The Director showed me around and shared the ministry and recovery process with me. Since then, I have visited a chapel service, assisted, along with people from our Church, in the evening meal and service. I have been there for a lunch. Our Church has received offerings for the Mission, invited the director to preach at our Church, prayed for the Mission, as well as delivered clothing. In addition, my wife and I have been regular monthly contributors.
I wholeheartedly believe in their ministry to our community. They are truly making a difference in the lives of our people. God bless you, and bless your continued ministry in our community.”
- retired pastor

“When I lost the job that I had made my career, feeling lost at sea barely describes it…”
As a boy, Johnathan was stuck inside a tense, divorced dynamic. Despite growing up knowing about God because of his grandparents, he discovered that staying neutral and not rocking the boat was the most peaceful way to be.
But his life became anything but neutral. He drifted into a life of sin and self-indulgence. He sought help from the church, but though he polished the outside of his life, he kept God at arm’s length and continued living in pride and rebellion.
In God’s providence, Johnathan lost his career, and he spiraled. Losing everything, homelessness overtook him. “Becoming homeless for almost a year was not something I ever envisioned.”
But that was just another step in God’s plan. “In a city park, I prayed for a way out of my insanity.” Johnathan shared. “By the end of that week, I was directed to UGM.” Johnathan enjoyed hot meals and safe shelter offered by the Mission, and months later, he decided to join the New Life Program.
God used the Program to teach Johnathan the importance of “surrendering and staying surrendered.” “I was received by open arms and so much support that it was overwhelming at first, but I’ve learned to find true comfort in the outpouring of encouragement that I’ve found here.”
Today, Johnathan is working part-time in our kitchen and living in the Redemption House as he rebuilds his foundation on surer ground. “I am truly changed from the man that I was,” he says now. We praise God for His grace in changing Johnathan’s life!
Mother’s Day doesn’t always look like flowers and picture perfect breakfast. For some of the women we serve, it looks like a bed on pavement and no breakfast at all.
That’s why our Women’s Clothes Closet staff and volunteers went the extra mile to try and help the women we serve know that they are seen and valued.
From girly goody bags to yummy treats to a shopping spree, it was a sweet morning spent bringing smiles and extra comfort to their lives. Like always, it was all paired with a call to know Christ, the only hope for their lives.
Thank you for helping make this Mother’s Day special for these women facing so much!

“I am grateful to get socks. I started off with little clothes and now I have enough. This boutique helped me in a great way.” - Clothes Closet Guest
A lady gets warm socks. A man gets a fresh shirt. A child gets a new jacket.
Not all of our neighbors can afford housing, food, or clothing. They need the help of their community to survive.
That’s where you come in.
Thank you for donating so that our Clothing Closets can give necessities to those in need every day at UGM.
We’re booked. Their struggles don’t stop, so neither do we. Dinner is served every night at 8:30 sharp to the homeless and hungry of our city, always paired with the Gospel.
But food doesn’t grow on trees… for free… and it certainly doesn’t serve itself.
So thank you to our donors for buying the food.
Thank you to our volunteers for serving it.
And thanks be to God for saving souls through the power of his Spirit and the Gospel of grace.
What’s the most exciting thing on your calendar this week?
Congratulations, John! 👨🏻🎓 You made it through all 10 months of the program!
We praise God that he continues to work in the hearts of men here on UGM’s campus.
We love graduation Fridays 🥳 Please be praying for John as he stays in our graduate dorms and works towards his future 🙏🏻

Miguel’s story could have ended in prison - but it didn’t.
At a young age, Miguel was caught up in gangs and drugs. But even when incarcerated, God pursued him. He shared, “God didn’t give up on me. He saved my life by putting me in a place where I had no choice but to listen - that place was prison.”
God placed Christian inmates in Miguel’s life, and he began accepting their invitations to worship services. Confused by their joy, he asked them why they were so happy. They told him it was because of Jesus.
“Hearing that stirred something inside me. I wanted what they had. So, I started going with my cellmate to worship God every chance I had.”
When he was released, Miguel asked God to lead him to a place where he could learn more about Him, and he ended up at UGM’s gate.
Here, he discovered the forgiveness and love of Christ: “I know I am still a sinner, but now I also know that Jesus has truly forgiven me.”
As a graduate living in our Redemption House as he pursues independent housing, he’s attending church, pursuing church membership, and looking forward to his baptism THIS Sunday!
Thank you for making stories like Miguel’s possible. God is using your support to rescue, redeem, and restore the lives of men.
