We are looking for an experienced public information officer with strong writing and communication skills. The department is quickly becoming recognized as a national leader in consumer protection. You will help to develop a comprehensive media relations program to educate California journalists and the public about our mission, goals, and objectives.

The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated self-starter who is able to transform complex topics into clear, relatable, and engaging public messaging. Apart from handling media queries, writing press releases, media advisories, etc., you will help us write articles, newsletters, talking points, and other content to help us raise our profile. You must be able to juggle immediate tasks with long-term communication planning and vision.

This role, in the Office of Public Affairs, includes collaborating with department staff to help ensure consistent and accurate messaging on all internal and external communications. The successful individual, who will serve as a subject matter expert to the media and external audiences, will work closely with the Executive leadership and relevant state and federal agencies and other stakeholders, and will also help with DFPI’s internal communications.

This is a great opportunity for a proactive team member with exceptional writing skills to help us better share our compelling story with both traditional and new media. This is vital for safeguarding and enhancing our reputation while increasing the department's visibility.
