Today, we learned of the passing of Dolores Huerta at 96. A co-founder of the United Farm Workers, Dolores spent nearly seventy years insisting that the fights for workers, immigrants, women, and LGBTQ people are one fight. She was an unwavering ally to our community, an early board member of the Human Rights Campaign, and a longtime champion of marriage equality.

“We have to go out there and really educate our community to make them understand that when we have a person who is gay, le***an, transgender or bisexual in our families, we have to protect them. They’re part of our families, and we have to give them the kind of support that they need.”
— Dolores Huerta, Arizona, 2014

We are so thankful for her steadfast allyship and for everything she did in support of our community and the world. Our hearts are with her children, her grandchildren, the Dolores Huerta Foundation, and all those she championed and worked so tirelessly for.

📣 Next Week! 🎬 Join us for Q***r Home on Film— a screening of short films and archival footage on the beauty, grief, joy, and community found in the spaces q***r and trans people call home. Presented in conjunction with our current exhibition, Where We Made Room, the program explores the q***r and trans home as a space that must be carved out, collectively imagined, and fought for.

💬 The screening will be followed by a conversation between Where We Made Room artist and curator Aleo Landeta and filmmaker Jenni Olson (575 Castro St.) on these themes and their work.

While the original Rainbow Flag is visiting Ireland, you can still visit and learn about the history of the rainbow at our museum in the Castro! 🏳️‍🌈

We've installed a temporary exhibition showcasing the history of the Rainbow Flag, alongside a reproduction of the original eight-striped flag created and signed by Gilbert Baker in 1998.

Also on display: a sewing machine that resides in the Gilbert Baker Collection and is listed among his supplies, and a medallion of the Cork City Coat of Arms, a gift from the city of Cork, Ireland during their delegation's visit earlier this year.

A special thank you to the Gilbert Baker Foundation for their generous contributions to this collection.

It's a new exhibition you'll want to see for yourself.
